I always think people sound slightly hysterical in these threads - you would think people lived in Beirut instead of some comfy suburb/town

EXACTLY! And I DO live in a large city that sees plenty of shootings and has enough crime, and I don't live in fear of being a victim of a crime. That's not to say I'm nonchalant and don't do what I can to stay safe.

I do agree with that which is why I really questioned the need for a gun at Sam's Club. Some fight might break out over the last of the discounted frozen chicken breasts or what?

um let's consider something here shall we?

if she leaves it in her vehicle, the vehicle can be stolen. or broken into. and then, with the laws we have, the criminal in this becomes her for not securing her firearm well enough.

if someone cannot secure the firearm from theft there is nothing wrong with keeping it on their person.

The article also states that she is a magistrate. Ya'll are ignoring that. She may have to keep her weapon on her because of her job. She's just a moron who didn't keep it safe from the little girl.

True, but by return is there a big lot of crime in these sparsely populated areas? I thought most crime was concentrated in inner cities and was gang and drug related? Of course you may not really have a fear of criminal activity but of wild animals which is significant and relevant.

and home invasions are not unusual in the country due to lack of neighbors.

we do have sightings of mountain lions out here too, to cover troll's following post.

i'm taking the view of her as an ordinary citizen while trying to avoid that particular angle.

What seems to be wrong with keeping it on her person is that despite being someone who should know better as she was a card carrying gun owner not some loon with an illegal weapon, she didn't act responsibly which resulted in an uncessary injury to a child. Those who are wary of gun ownership have a legitimate right to ask whether she broke the "rules" or didn't get enough training? I also think it would be fair to require her to undergo more training before she can continue legally carry a gun around.

There are experts who wish to 'reintroduce' the American cheetah (and other large and scary animals) into the American midwest.

my uncle is convinced he saw one of those on our land a few months ago. since we're attached to the national forest I called the park ranger to ask his opinion and he laughed hysterically.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

Heck, there have been mountain lion and bears that have wandered into the burbs of Jersey, too. They usually die on our highways though.

gotta have something served in those busy restaurants......

Well, then punish her for negligence. That's what we do with drunk drivers. Banning guns is punishing everyone for one person's idiocy. That's too Big Brother for me.

her actions were not what i'd consider to be safe practices, no. and i'd go so far as to suggest that her concealed carry be revoked and she is required to take the course again due to her negligence. however, many of these stories often turn into a round up all the guns type of thread, rather than genuine concern on the part of those "wary of gun ownership."

I live in a small town about an hour from Minneapolis. There's a meth problem out in my area. One of the reasons is anhydrous ammonia , an ingredient to making the #######. Farmers use anhydrous in their fields, so its available out in the open.

OT.. if you grill with propane

I don't think you'll find I have called for an out and out ban anywhere. My pet peeve is with the 'it's just a tool' argument. I am also wondering whether having a permit to carry concealed is all it's cracked up to be. In this instance it appears as though this woman acted carelessly and I think she should recieve some kind of punishment for her wrecklessness if it is proved that that is what led up to the accident and possibly have her permit revoked.
