$100 is not free then....

And what about co-pays??

Free if you're single ;)

Co-pays too, of course, but that's peanuts.

Mark -

Free health insurance (as it used to be offered by employers) used to mean just that - free. For the worker and the family. With no co-pays for visits.

There was no prescription drug coverage back then, but drugs didn't cost a small fortune then either.

Oh, I also don't believe it matters (in the case of employee coverage) if you are 'single' or not. The insurance company doesn't care. The correct wording would be that the employee is covered - and not family members - for free. Which is very very very rare in today's world.

i'm one of the lucky ones. my employer pays my disablitity insurance short/long term & medical insurance premium + puts $1000 into a fund to cover the first $1000 of any medical office visit or procedures per year + 1/2 of the unused rolls over to the next year. the insurance company picks up 85% over the first $1000 up to $15,000 then 70%. scripts are $5 generic $10 name brand $30 formulary.

eta:we also get 100k life insurance & i opt up to 250k for $10 a month.

It´s true that gas in Europe is like $8 or $10/gallon but it´s also true that monthly an average person can last with one full tank. (Ofcourse there are people who drive more and people who drive less. But I drove usually almost daily and a tank was all I needed.) In USA I assume more full tanks a month are needed.

Concerning the dual citizenship in some countries it might be easy but e.g. Czech republic only allows women to have a dual citizenship. A man would have to give up his American one. Seems like it´s similar in Germany according to what Wacken says.

And someone asked about France. I have seen people representing France on VJ :) There are plenty :)

My findings of living in Europe or USA are these: both places are nice to live in. But the important things in life that effect majority of people and their lives (things concerning work, health insurance and things like that) are waaay better in Europe.

PPO or HMO?

PPO

So they cover what, 80%? Not exactly epanuts if you have a big procedure or specialists...

I think they cover 100% if the doctor is a preferred provider with the insurance plan.

Of course, if you get laid off, that's the end of that. Unless you have a spare few hundred a month for COBRA.
