prepare the form in the name you want to be known as... if married name then the maiden name would go under the "other names used" section

Thank you for ur response :thumbs::thumbs: !!!!!

The thing is I have already filed the paper work on the 28th of March and now I wish I had known that I could use my Marriage name instead! I want to know if it's too late to get it change or I have to wait until i'm removing condition??

You have to file the form I-90 to change your name on your GC and pay $300+, you cannot change anything on your interview. I don't know if you can file for SSN with your married name while the name on your EAD is in your maiden name. You can use your maiden name for the meantime and wait until you file for Lifting of condition to change your name.

My wife was asked what name she wanted on the card. They'll do the name change on the card for you at the interview. Then you'll need to change your name on other documents.

Regarding SSN....

Dealing with the SSA is pretty random (regarding how cooperative they will be). They might be as hard to deal with sometimes as USCIS. You don't need EAD to do a name change, even though some locations/reps will tell you that. If you show them a valid (at the time of marriage) K-1 and I-94, along with the marriage certificate, you should have all you need.

Yep, just ask at the AOS interview and the examiner will change it (if you don't have an interview - then you might have to wait till lifting of conditions to do it for free). Good Luck

Oops! I should have checked that before posting. Sorry! So many K-1'ers around here....

Once you get your EAD, then, you are eligible for a SSN, and should be able to get it in your married name if you have valid EAD and proof of your name change.

Good luck!

Incorrect. There is no law prohibiting changes/corrections during an AOS interview. Where did you get that information. We did make a name adjustment to Marlene's application during the interview. We did not have to file any additional forms or pay any fee.

Agreed... but what if the interview is waived?

This might be worth a call to USCIS. They might be able to update the information over the phone. Has anyone ever tried this with a name change?

Agreed. My friend also did the same with the OP and had her unmarried surname changed to her married surname during the interview. The interviewer was very accomodating and they had no problems, no additional fees as well.
