Hi, guys!

is it really much more expensive to buy flight tickets 2 weeks before the flight date than a month?

i mean, does the price changes substantioly?

real important for me. thank you!

It really depends on how well the tickets on the flight have sold and are selling. Airlines used complicated software programs to manage ticket sales and leverage the best price for the seats that they can.

As a general rule the nearer to the departure date the prices increase but if the flight hasn't sold well there may well be deals available up to about a week before. When we came over Lufthansa had a really good discounted fare on the route we wanted to use. Luckily for us on a few odd days that price was still available and I got it 3 days before we traveled.

Now with airlines cutting back capacity the likelihood of a good price being available that close to departure date is greatly reduced.

You may be lucky but the really cheap tickets, if there is such a thing now, will have gone.

Also I found out in my pre need pricing calls that one way tickets have different rules. I was talking to Delta and was told there is no discount for buying a one way in advance as long as there were seats available it was a set price. Call around and find out.

I think it depends on times of year I guess. In summer when a lot of people are travelling, chance you will get last mins deal are slim esp. if it is long haul flight as people usually planned in advance. I would think for domestic or more more common flight, the chance is higher. For long haul flight (like visit home), I set up budget & call up travel agent about 4-5 months before flying so they can make reservation - cheaper tickets goes away quickly.

Obviously im leaving from the UK, but going by todays prices are cheap rather than flying in 3 weeks time or even longer. For instance Heathrow - JFK $400 one way. If I want to book in around 3 weeks the price is around $550 and in September or October its about the same.

I flew from Toronto- Glasgow, UK for $180 on a last minute flight. If your not bothered when you fly, I would buy the ticket ASAP.

Look at the prices of return tickets, they can quite often be cheaper than a one way.
