I'm wondering now why he would say this. The Vatican didn't accept the world as being round until it was unmistakingly proven. They didn't accept that the Earth wasn't the center of the Universe until that was unmistakingly proven. Now its okay to accept Aliens? Hmm. What have they seen?

LOL, I doubt they have seen anything...I think they are just pointing out that nowhere in the Bible does it say that there can't exist any other forms of life besides the human race.

On the other hand, nowhere in the bible can you read about the excistance of other creatures away from what lives on earth.

So, they aren't really saying anything.

Wouldn't that cause some sort of problem for the Church though - if we encountered some sort of intelligent alien life?

Well, I guess the church could still say that eventhough the bible doesn't mention any other existing forms of life outside planet earth, that that doesn't mean, it was not possible.

I mean, the whole christian faith is based on believing in something that you can't see.

Now, I don't think they are promoting to believe in aliens, but it seems they are open to the possibility.

This is not new...the Vatican has responded to such issues as evolution and science in general - stating that science is not in conflict with the belief in God nor will it ever be. That is in contrast with many Protestant religions who believe that the ultimate authority of science is the Holy Bible.
