Ok here's a quick run-down. I will soon be filing an Affidavit of Support and while I currently am making above the poverty guidelines, in 2005 and 2006 and part of 2007 I was working as a teacher as well as doing volunteer work in Indonesia and the Republic of the Philippines and I made below the minimum for reporting federal income tax for tax year 2006. I'll of course submit a letter explaining all this but I think it would be prudent to have a co-sponsor. My question is this I currently reside in California. The relative that i would use as a Co-Sponsor lives in Texas. Is this a problem insofar as anyone here is aware of? Thanks for any help on this.

P.S Ive currently been employed here in the States for 10 months, again im making above the poverty guidelines, but 2007 is only for a partial year as i returned to the states in July. thnx again

I think you'll qualify on your own if you state your current income as an anualization of your current pay. A co-sponsor in your back pocket wouldn't hurt and it doesn't matter if they are in Texas.

  • 1 month later...

Im revisiting this topic now at this later date to ask for clarification either from pushbrk or anyone else who was information regarding whether or not a co-sponsor needs to reside in the household????? as the person whom I have to back me up as a co-sponsor, a parent, resides in another state. Upon reading the instructions on form I-864A, Contract between Sponsor and Household Member, it states...For puposes of this form, a "household member" is a relative who has the same principal residence as the sponsor and is related to the sponsor as a spouse, adult child, parent, or sibling....

Upon reading that my thought was they must reside in the same household, if anyone has a clarification on this and/or personal experience with co-sponsoring I would very much appreciate it. Insofar as my income personally i likely wont need a co-sponsor but due to the fact that Ive been working just under a year back here in the states, i would like to include it in the AOSupport packet i send back..Thanks in advance
