Although I would never buy from Dell, HP or Gateway, I suppose machines from those companies might be "okay" for a while if you're only using them for basic tasks. Personally, I tend to prefer computers from vendors like Alienware, VoodooPC or even Falcon-Northwest. But they're also a little pricier.

A little....?

By the time I add everything the price is outrageous. I think I might just be better off sticking with Walmart. Apparently I don't want that great of a computer after all.

Hmm. Yeah it works out a bit of $1,000. At that price thought he PC will last a few years..

That's a great deal, by the way. Very affordable.

Very affordable when you have that kind of money to spend. Right now we are working on just my income which doesn't even come close to paying our normal bills. We don't really even need to be buying a new computer but we have to have one. $700 is about as much as I'm willing to put us in debt. So that being said, I need the best computer I can get for no more than $700, preferably less.

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!

Vista is a major resource hog. Go for a higher RAM...maybe 4GB.

That's what I was wondering. I've seen from the threads on here that it tends to slow things down. There's not much I hate more than a slow computer. I just don't have the patience when it comes to waiting on things to load. Plus, it seems like I might as well go with Vista. No sense in getting XP when it's eventually going to be phased out anyway.

i only have 1 GB of RAM on my computer and it runs pretty fast.... if you are not a gamer it shouldn't be a problem...

If you're not playing games or into photo-editing you really don't need to spend more than $500 or so.

yeah.. you don't need the 4 GB of ram if you are not a gamer...

and I have a 160 GB hard drive...

I think what boo-yah is saying to get is more for people who do lots of stuff with their computer.. but if you mainly just use the computer to surf the net and check emails and stuff you don't need all that....

and I have a bout a 17 inch flat screen monitor.. I love it.. it doesn't take up very much room on my desk...

I don't know if you saw but I got this computer last summer at Walmart, it is an Acer Aspire.... cost about 600 bucks and it came with everything... keyboard, monitor, mouse, speakers....

Yes definitely. If you only use it for email and web browsing I would look at a cheaper model.

Yeah, I'm leaning toward Walmart again. They have some pretty good stuff on their website. I'm not sure what they'll have in the stores around here. I know it varies. I may check back on HP and Dell just to see what one would cost with less ram. Other than that I'll go with my stand-by, Walmart.

Yeah, I know. It would be different if I used my computer for lots of stuff. I'd say I'm on my home computer about 30 minutes a day, if even that. I just don't see spending all that money on something I hardly ever use. We just have to have one for Javi's business.

Thanks!

I saw that one after taking a closer look. It's not bad at all. I'll compare it with some others I've found and see how it works out.
