DS-156 question

Hi,

I just had a quick question concerning the DS-156. On question #36 it asks, "Has anyone ever filed a immigrant visa petition on your behalf?"

Does this question only apply to American visa petitions or any at all? My fiance was previously in another relationship with an Australian. An approved visa petition was issued for Australia but he turned it down. If I have to say yes will it hurt our chances? I appreciate any advice on the matter.

Thank you so much!

The U.S. Consulate is only interested on previous American Immigrant Visa Petitions filed on behalf of the applicant (foreign fiance). Same applies for the questions about other visas granted and visa refusals.

In my understanding question #36 addresses American visa petitions only and not with other countries since what you are filling up is a US government form.

So at what stage is the DS-156 come around?

It's one of the requirements during the interview.
