I found this link on BritishExpats from Mr. Folinsky regarding "consul shopping," with the caveat that things could have changed since 2003:

http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread....consul+shopping

Seriously, you could probably get him a basic PC for like 300 euros....

I know-he should have bought one. All I know is.................for the next few months-I won't be calling at all. after all this #######-I think I should definetly do my best to be there for the interview. Tickets are over $800, so no more phone calls  at least not every day!

You could probably get him a basic laptop for not much more, which he could then bring to the States—Ewen did that and I know we both appreciate not having to share a computer.

Latest news: Green card received 16 April 2007. USCIS-free until 3 January 2009! Eligible to naturalize 3 April 2010.

I am currently looking into the possiblilty of having my case transfered to Greece as they accept applicants from other countries. I spoke to the NVC about this and they told it was a common practice and does not make a difference in the outcome of the case. They said if I want to transfer my case to another embassy. I have to get in touch with that embassy first and see if they are willing to accept. If they accept the embassy will contact the embassy where your case currently resides and get it transfered.

Just an FYI, I don't think you're going to have much luck with that, unless your sweetie is legally resident in Greece. It is common practice for foreign nationals to interview outside their country of citizenship (for example, citizen of country A interviews has a work visa in country B, and so he interviews in country B instead), but only if he or she is legally resident outside of their country of citizenship. "Consulate shopping," from what I have read, is discouraged.

Actually the embassy in Greece does not require you to be a resident. Its stated on their website and I have confirmed that with them. Its up to each individual embassy on a case by case basis if they want to accept the case.

That's odd, I've always known Athens to require residency from one or the other partner (that's where we filed, so it's one of the places I keep an eye on). In fact a recent request for a non-resident DCF was just turned down in Athens even tho the 3rd country national is legally resident in Greece. ..I'll be interested to know what you find out about this---can you PM me the link to the info you found?

Would a Jordanian citizen normally need a visa to stay in Greece for X period of time? Does your timline really say that you can't get a K-1 appointment until 07??? :o

I will surely email you that link, its right on the embassies website under Visa's. This was somthing I also confirmed with the NVC. A Jordanian citizen would need a Schengen visa to get into Greece, but that is not a problem to obtain. YES, my interview is in February of 2007. This is a direct effect of the war. Many Iraqi citizens have moved to Jordan and recently they were assigned to use the Jordanian Embassy.

I don't think it would hurt to try, Colleen. Might shave some time off.

But the biggest part of the delay will be stateside processing of the prints - and there's nothing you can do to speed that up unfortunately.

I think part of your anxiety is not being able to communicate with Gavin in an affordable manner. I think you are looking at a separation of 2-3 months yet. I would seriously consider trying to find a cheaper way to communicate.....it might help your understandable angst.....

Thanks for that link Pax, very interesting. We will just have to see the turnout. What shocks me its that the Amman Embassy has not asked for assistance with all the backlog they have. I think the wait time there is absoulutly ridicoulous and neighboring counties in the Middle East don't have this problem.

I have been paying hundreds each month for two years-that is only a small part of it. I am just so upset that we won't see eachother for another couple of months. All the stress, paperwork, fighting(yes we argue) is taking its toll on me/us. I know it will take them 3-4 months to figure out that he isn't a freaking criminal and it makes me sick to my stomach. This is ridculous-it isn't fair and I am so over it. I will call to see if I can get him in earlier(6 weeks is just ridiculous) but I know it won't make things happen any sooner. I am so tired of being alone-I waited my whole life to meet my soulmate and I can't be with him. It is truly heartbreaking :crying: I know people wait a really long time, but I feel that we have waited long enough. I want to live my life!!!!!!!!!!!

I should log off-I am really upset

Thanks everyone :star:

I'm having a hard time following the story, but it sound to me like you need more information--you're just guessing here and so are we.

Why don't you get ahold of the Consulate and ask them what's up and what can you do to expedite it?

Don't get upset--get information! :)

I didn't log off for long...............my fiance has to have fingerprints taken before his interview(which should have been held in a few weeks) so now we will have to wait another 3 months or so(maybe). There is nothi

ng else we can do. I am going to call tomorrow to see if he can get in earlier than 6/12 to get this done.

unfortunately-we have been screwed AGAIN

you really need to chill, girl!!! what's going to happen when you have a serious crisis in your life?

as abby already tried to tell you twice ... the same exact thing happened to us. once you are denied entry to the US, EVEN though they fingerprint you THERE ... you need to have them done at the embassy. why? who knows, but that's how it is. it's actually something you should have prepared for because i'm almost certain i've posted this to you before.

sorry for being so curt but ... it's not like this is being done on purpose, it's procedure. gavin just sent packet 3 back on the 20th of april ... it would be at least 4-6 until the interview anyway. his fingerprint checks will likely only take about 30 odd days. geoff had his prints done ... we were never notified what the results were, he was just sent his interview letter.

try not to stress until you really have a reason too ... and buy an international calling card while you're at it!:thumbs:

I tend to agree with Monique. And to say you 'can't' be with him simply is not factual. A delay does not mean that you're doomed to live without him forever.

A little perspective is always good.

Well, I get what everyone else is saying, but I totally understand what you mean, Irish. It's just that it's heartbreaking to think you're going to be together soon and then suffer another setback. I think that's all she was really getting at. Feel for ya, girl and hope it won't take as long as you think... :( If it does, just remember...you're gonna be together forever!!!! :) :) :)(F)

Thanks Michelle

I realize that I will see him again-but for two people that have been through a lot(not just the immigration sh*t), this is just one more thing that we were not planning on. I never heard of the fingerprinting thing before I posted about it this week. If I had known-I wouldn't be this upset about it. Even though the paperwork was sent back 4/20...............his interview would have been the same time he is now getting fingerprints  The cost of flights is ridiculous in the summer-so that is another concern.

I did plan on seeing him soon & now I won't be so I feel as if I have had the wind knocked out of me. It is just a setback but it still hurts. I know we have a long road ahead-but ya know what..................I am ready to get on with it already

Thanks everyone for letting me vent

Going back to the whole Skype thing you can buy a skype-in number so that he can call you from a landline or mobile as if you live around the corner from him. I forget how much it costs but considering most mobile phone plans in the UK & ireland include free local calls, it could save you a fortune !!

Regarding the waiting I can fully appreciate your stress. Debs and I waited 5 months for our NOA2 through Nebraska and during that time we had NO idea what was going on !! The only option you have, besides giving up on your dream, is to roll with the punches and stick it out. Like one of the other posters said, if you can cope with this, the stuff when you're together is a cake walk !!

Best of luck for a speedy resoultion to your case.

Mark :)
