I don't think there is anything you can do about the time. When I send packages to Vietnam, it often takes 4-6 weeks. I know for a fact that it gets to Vietnam very quickly, but it sits there for a long time before they deliver it. And I don't know the details (I don't want to know) but there is always some sort of money exchange for her to get the package. We would probably call it a bribe.

I don't even bother sending it any kind of priority/express for that reason.

I have sent probably 6 or 8 packages there over the past 1 1/2 years. Only 1 got lost. Unfortunately, that was Mai's Christmas present.

If you want to send it by DHL, it will get there faster, but it will cost you dearly, I am guessing at least twice what you paid for the Post Office.

USPS has been pain. my fiance sent several mails and they kept the first class ones (or courier i dont remember) until i had to pick it up myself in the post office, plus they charged me fee to pick it.

Use prepaid mail containers at the post office they run between $ 10.00 and about $ 50.00 depending on the size of the container. I am talking west coast prices. It take about 6 to 14 days to be delivered at thier address. CHECK out the POST OFFICE. Good Luck.

For documents that needed to travel in either direction the only quick way is through one of the delivery companies. DHL, FedEx or UPS. We used FedEx and it never took more than 3 days.

USPS isn't handled completely by Americans. When it gets to the PI, it is handled by their postal service, which yes, causes delays.

My attorney uses DHL, but I've always used Fedex, which both have services for 3 days (Fedex also has a 5-day service if you're not in a huge rush). They are costly, but I've used Fedex twice and they have always been 3 days (well, calendar days between the U.S. and PI, so technically, 2.5 days, it's fast! :) ).

Prices I had for Fedex (don't remember the DHL):

- Fedex International Priority (3-day option) for both shipments:

- 4.35 pound Fedex box - $132.13

- 0.45 pound Fedex document mailer - $55.58

I sent packages to Riza several times using USPS. THe last time was in November. I sent them Priority mail and was quoted 6-10 days. She received them on December 19. they had obviously sat somewhere for a while since she told me that a rat had chewed a hole in one of them. I was also irritated that after charging me almost $100 for the 2 packages, the postal employee then told me to use the flat rate boxes the next time that would cost me only $37.

Previous to that, when Riza sent me her signed forms for the I-129F and other signed items that we needed, it took 6 weeks o arrive to me.

So, since I didn't trust the postal system and needed for Riza to have the I-134 and other evidence I could provide to her, I sent them by DHL which cost me almost $52 but it took 4 days to arrive including a weekend.

If you are going to use USPS definately pay the extra $14 for the certified delivery or use Global Priority. This is still hit or miss. I had one set of docs was delivered in one week and another took over 30 days.

On the second set I started a search from USPS and emailed the customs number to the Phil Customs office before it was delivered. The local postman told my wife I sent the docs regular mail and that is why it took so long. I guess he could not read the

Before sending documents to Thailand, I checked the USPS website for it policy in regards to mailing international, it clearly said they guarantee the time it will take to arrive to the international destination, once there, it is out of their hands and they have no control over that countries postal service.

To be honest, never send anything to the Philippines in regular mail, use DHL, UPS or FedEx. Chances are the recepient will either never receice it or won't receive all of it.........I know from experience.

Yes, once it reaches the international point, it is out of the hand of the USPS and in the recipient's country's postal system.

If you are going to send anything via USPS, make sure you send it registered. This is the USPS most secure form of mailing. My stepmother and her 2 sisters who live in the U.S. have never experienced problems with the USPS using this (nor have I, it just takes a month to be received).

USPS (UNITES STATES POSTAL SERVICE) is that it?

I think, when it reaches Philippines, it's goes through the CMEC (Central Mail Exchange Center) for inspection.
