I don't really think my personal experience or your personal experience or anyone's personal experience is in any way useful for judging the mental states of others. I don't think you can usually judge someone's mental health just from talking to them or looking at them in day to day life.

But, most of us have boundaries about sex that wouldn't allow us to be porn stars. These people, for whatever reason, do not have normal sexual boundaries, or they wouldn't be able to do their job. They also must be willing to have sex with hundreds+ people (another boundary most here wouldn't cross). These things all violate normal societal rules.

Many people without normal sex boundaries have been abused. Many people overall have been abused, and you wouldn't know it by looking. I don't have a problem with porn at all, but it's something to keep in mind.

Edit: For example, I always laugh when I here someone in the porn industry making an oxymoron statement like Christians are backwards..

why? they screw too.

One is about teaching good moral character while the other is solely about satisfying primitive urges.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Again...what experience are you speaking from? You just said that my or your personal experience isn't useful in judging someone's mental state. But earlier you judged someone's mental state. So I ask again...on what criteria are you basing that judgment on?

Some people are less comfortable with their sexuality than others. Some women refuse to wear low-cut shirts because it makes them uncomfortable. If you would be uncomfortable working in porn, that's fine and I'd encourage you to stay away from the industry--you wouldn't make much money. :) But just because your boundaries are closer than someone else's boundaries doesn't make them deviant. It just makes them different.

What is a "normal" sex boundary? Who gets to determine "normalcy?" If someone enjoys what they do, and it's not hurting anyone else, what's the problem? I will agree that if someone is being abused, that is a very bad situation. But I have no problem with consenting adults doing something that doesn't hurt anyone else.

Sex is primitive?

Well excuse me for not having figured out how to achieve pleasure and reproduce via osmosis yet.

1. I judged her mental health because like many other people with nothing better to do, I watched her on Celebrity Rehab having actual therapy sessions. Then I listened to a mental health expert give his opinion on her mental health.

If I were to just meet her, I might have an impression but I'd reserve judgment of her mental health. As I hope you would.

2. You seem to think I'm some sort of prude who feels porn actors are "deviant." I don't think they are except in that they deviate from the norm. If someone feels really comfortable with their sexuality, and wants to have sex with a lot of people, then I have no problem with that. I have a few friends who do that, and I'm cool with it. I had a few other friends who had tons of partners and were doing it to fill some void. That sucked. Doing it for money is another thing altogether. Do I think it should be legal? Yes. Do I think there is anything wrong with porn or prostitution? No. But do I think it's possible that many of the people who work in that industry are willing to participate because of something painful in their lives? Yeah, maybe.

I'm not saying they're all like that. This all began when I made a statement about Mary Carey based on what mental health professionals had said about her. I didn't base it on generalizations about people in porn in general. I do believe a lot of porn workers are probably a bit psychologically wounded, but that doesn't really have any impact on any opinion I have of their work. I also don't judge them for something that may have happened to them.

If you'd like to crusade against the sexually inhibited or something, I think you're barking up the wrong tree.

I'm not on any kind of crusade at all. I'm just going by your original post on the matter:

Not having hangups about bodies and sexuality helps you have a healthier sex life. It doesn't normally lead to having sex for money. Would you say the same thing about street hookers? These are hookers who are also exhibitionists.

I don't have anything against porn, but call a spade a spade. Just because in your six months at that company you met some porn stars doesn't mean you have deep insight into their psyches. I'm sure most of them are capable of behaving as normal people do.

I think you're probably right that there are some people who work in the industry that have some pain in their lives. I know the prostitution "industry" (such as it is) has a lot of that. And if you want to point to a lot of the really low-grade porn (like the stuff that comes out of Eastern Europe or Asia) then yeah, that's some grade A unhealthy shiт right there. But then if you look at the "legitimate" porn industry, and the legitimate prostitution industry (such as the "ranches" in Nevada) you'll see that it provides a very safe environment for both the workers and clientèle. And I know you said you support the legalization of prostitution, so I'm not arguing here, I'm just saying that the more legitimate an industry becomes, the safer and healthier the workers are. So it's really in our best interests to encourage a healthy sex industry, and stop condemning it as unhealthy and full of "sick" people.

This is probably the best reason:

What is liberal guilt

Liberal guilt is a perfectly natural phenomenon exclusive to homosexuals by which people feel guilty for being born and/or raised in more culturally, economically or socially favorable circumstances. Basically, it's taking for granted that being a white, wealthy, healthy, straight man makes you more lucky than everybody else, and therefore that you should feel guilty for existing, since it is common knowledge that you are responsible for people's #### when they are less lucky than you. Therefore, people affected by liberal guilt are responsible for the problems of the entire universe. They should be hated by every kind of minority unless they do charity work and state how tolerant and sorry they are for being cruel and egocentric between every other statement, especially with examples of cruelty which only concern past generations and which they haven't done anything to cause, like slavery.

When you are target to liberal guilt, it is severely frowned upon to pursue any kind of happiness and satisfaction, that is, via money, material beings, vacations, laughing, resting, eating or breathing. It's okay to assume, since you're not poor nor disadvantaged by belonging to a minority, that you are bound to be happy with your life - especially considering that you have money, source of automatic happiness - and that clinging onto any kind of additional personal satisfaction is superficial and egocentric.

Certainly the latest liberal band-wagon..
