If you look at the "Guides" at the top of the page, it will reference for you the K-1 visa, which you have on profile as what you're petitioning. That means a fiance visa, so that you can bring your finance to the US and marry her here. If you've started the process and get married, you're going to have to abandon your K-1 visa, and restart the process and reapply for a K-3 visa!

If this wasn't what you meant...note that your application was received just a week ago, so you'll need to hunker down and wait for all the notifications. You might want to look in the Regional Discussions thread for Latin America's. Look as well about timelines from others from your fiance's country.

Good luck on your journey!

My utmost apologies Jordin for my previous post. Puerto Rico is a US Territory. Does this mean the process is the same? Please someone help me out here.

Either way Jordin, please look at the top of the site where you'll see "Immigration Timelines". That will give you an idea of what timeframes you're looking at. It's only been a week since your petition has been received so expect to hear something in the mail saying they've received your application in around 2-3 weeks. Later than that if they're busy. If you sent the application with a cheque, after it's been cashed, there will be a number on the back of your cheque. That will allow you to register at the tracking site, and then you'll be updated on your application.

Here's the link.

The vermont Service center has been running very fast! I would look for a approval in about two months and then another 2 months for nvs and consular processing! So My guess would be she will have her visa in about 4 months! :) If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask!

welcome to the board!

when looking at other peoples' timelines, i would just look at other people with cuban fiances.

you can look at my page, and also look at my list of friends...i think they are all cuban fiances.

i was SUPER excited because the first steps -- my K-1 petition approval -- happened very fast. then the petition cleared through the National Visa Center very fast.

then, when I called the Havana embassy to set up an appointment... the disappointment set in, having to wait about 4 months for the interview to happen.

so definitely as soon as you hear that the National Visa Center has had your papers for about one week, go ahead and call the Havana office (search this site for past posts from "Edwin and Mary") and try to get an interview set up.

you don't need to wait for your fiance to pick up his/her packet from the embassy (if they ask, just say you've downloaded all the forms from the web) because you will want to get yourself an appointment ASAP. if you have 4 or so months in the meantime, then you have plenty of time to fill out the forms and collect all the data.

good luck and keep posting so future people can share in our experience.

Just because you filed at the VSC I can give you a very good estimation of 3-4 months because I have not seen very many people who have gone longer. In fact it is rare to see someone from the VSC wait longer than the usual 3 months.

Have fun and feel blessed because there are many at the CSC who have to wait 6 months.
