I met my bf a year ago online then he came to visit me 3 months after that. I fell in love with him the moment I saw him at the airport. I knew he was the one so then 9 months later (now), I went to visit him and his family. A month after I arrived, he proposed to me out of the blue and surprised me. It was like a dream come true but we didn't plan this so we realized that we were soulmates and getting married only made sense.

So we're planning to go to the court house to get married.

How would my fiance go about getting me a green card? I"m here on a visitor visa. would this cause any problems?

Provided you are her in the states legally (which, with a visa you are), and did not enter the country with the intention of getting married, and didn't lie in any way to the immigration official when you entered then, you are legally allowed to get married here, and apply for adjustment of status (I130/I485 and associated stuff).

Just be aware, it is not recommended that you leave the US before the adjustment is complete - realistically 9 months or so - but this is very generalised. This could cause some problems if you have unfinished business in Australia - ie apartment, rental, unemployment, family - but, if you are 100% commited, it is doable. The other alternative is to go back to Aus, then apply for a fiance visa, and wait (and wait)

You mentioned you visited on a visitor visa - was this a waiver, or actual visa?

If you decide you are going to get married, make sure you do it before you are "out-of-status" - that is the "leave-by" date on your I-94 card,

Julezabelle gave you a good link for the technicalities.

As an Australian who has gone through just what you are describing, I offer you support, and proof it is doable!

PS Hope you bought a good supply of Vegemite ;-)

My previous post was assuming your fiance is a US citizen himself, if not - it can't be done.
