...............attendance at a naming ceremony. My husband said it was low scaled considering what it could have been. But it was a blessing to be there.

But let me tell you, before we arrived at the ceremony, we were at a new friend's place and I was about to go crazy!!! The children were standing on the table, the oldest couldn't talk and was still in a pamper. Now let me say there was no obvious disability that I could tell (so I don't won't to sound unreasonable). Discipline????.......what age is more common to start it?

Can other Americans who have married Africans, share what activities/ceremonies they have attended (learning of the culture)??

What is a naming ceremony?

It is similar to American "blessing of the child" at the church, except they do it at home and celebrate.

Annoyed?

I don't expect everyone to understand the signifigance of this type of event. (Especially when one is unfamiliar with the customs/culture). However, the naming ceremony is considered to be a major "Whooptie-do" amongst Nigerians, and for good reason.

Yes, sometimes it seems that people just go through everything and post something, even if it doesn't really add so that they can get as many little bars as possible. I agree that it can be anoying. If you have a question or input, ask it or give it, don't just post for the sake of posting.

I feel ya! I didn't want to put it out there  , so I'm glad you & MandolinV addressed it. I was trying to give the benefit of the doubt, because I sincerely felt that the O.P. was clueless regarding the ceremony. However, I agree that if the motivating force for posting frivolous remarks is to gain blue cubes & a gazillion (L) 's then thats :(. Especially when this can be easily accomplished by going to Off Topic and playing Game Time.
