maybe, but it hits a sore spot for me....hubbys family are very pro breastfeeding which i have nothing against, i would have LOVED to have breastfed my son, i just feel sometimes people look at you as less of a mother because shock horror you gave your child the bottle.

It has nothing to do with people being able or not to breastfeed. BREAST IS BEST it's a fact. DId anybody say...shame on you for not breastfeeding? No. You know what, I don't feed my son organic food and get the "WHAAAATs" about that but I'm sure he'll be just fine when he's grown up.

Though it certainly wasn't anyone's intention here, a lot of women do report experiencing it as shaming. A friend of mine had to stop breastfeeding because she had emergency gallbladder surgery, and the amount of clueless comments she got that snidely suggested she must be a bad mother or (quels horreurs!) an ill-educated mother who just hadn't heard of the marvelous benefits of breastfeeding was amazing.

A generation ago formula was considered 'scientific' and therefore 'better', and we know that's wrong now, but most of the baby boomers turned out alright.
