I wonder how the vatican justifies its own "accumulation of excess wealth."

They have more gold than Fort Knox.

I wonder if the pope was snickering while taking a dump on his golden toilet when he came up with that one. I actually find it offensive that the vatican, of all groups, has the gall to tell others not to accumulate excess wealth.

It was inevitable. Everything is going "green". And the Vatican isn't being left behind. Good for them.

Well, actually the idea of care for God's creatures and the environment are an integral part of Catholci Social Teaching and one of the 7 Themes of Catholic Social Teaching. In fact, don't most religions have some reference to care for the earth as a responsibility of humans?

And while I understand that there are MANY problems within the Catholic church, and I certainly don't agree with everything, I wonder why people overlook the many good things that the Catholic church does and why it's necessary to be so rude about it? I know there are stereoptypes, but not every priest rapes little boys and while the Vatican does have immense wealth, there are many many organizations that work under the umbrella of the Catholic church that do wonderful things in the world: Catholic Relief Services for local and international help and St. Vincent de Paul Society, which was just nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

I'm not offended, because everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it does miff me sometimes when people bash Catholicism (and other religions) based on stereotype.

I feel the same when people bash Islam based on stereotype so I totally understand.

I guess I'm a little biased since I grew up in Boston where the damage was immense. It's hard to just shake it off but I do agree that the church does a lot of good in the world.

no one is disputing the good the Church does, but that is not the topic off this is it? Coming out with new sins is somewhat humorous since it is assumed that Catholics are now supposed to follow these new rules, which change over time.

It just adds to my belief that the catholic church is an organization whose purpose is to control the actions of the entire world.

Having spent some of my childhood in the Catholic church,I am well aware of the help it provides worldwide.I just think it's funny how they, along with other churches want to impose their rules on people while doing what they please.

Yes, definitely in need of an upgrade.

Pride is a good thing these days, and most people wouldn't even know what "sloth" is.

It's a slow-moving mammal, of course. Supa Fly!

If you read the article it's not listing new sins, but new instances of old sins. What does gluttony look like in the modern era? Etc.

Hell is full of angry obese people, and some are even proud to be obese.
