Answer is on USCIS site:

Maintaining Permanent Residence You may lose your permanent residence status if you commit an act that makes you removable from the United States under the law in section 237 of the Immigration and Nationality Act. If you commit such an act, you may be brought before the immigration courts to determine your right to remain a Permanent Resident.

You may be found to have abandoned your permanent resident status if you:

  • Move to another country intending to live there permanently.

  • Remain outside of the US for more than one year without obtaining a reentry permit or returning resident visa. However in determining whether your status has been abandoned any length of absence from the US may be considered, even if it is less than one year.

  • Remain outside of the US for more than two years after issuance of a reentry permit without obtaining a returning resident visa. However in determining whether your status has been abandoned any length of absence from the US may be considered, even if it is less than one year.

  • Fail to file income tax returns while living outside of the US for any period.

  • Declare yourself a “nonimmigrant†on your tax returns.

Green-card is for being a permanent resident of the USA not a temporary resident of the USA.

What country has nothing to do with the question. But if you want to be so specific, proper grammar would be nice :)

YuAndDan.... filling in a timeline is not a pre-requisit of being a member of VJ..... Please stop demanding people to "FILL IN YOUR TIMELINE" ..... and as for your coment about there being no Country called N/A maybe they dont want you to know...

FOR GOD SAKE DO US ALL A FAVOUR AND STOP WITH THE TIMELINE POLICE.... if people want to fill in there timeline then fine they will... if not then they wont.....

That's exactly what I was getting at. Its on every one of his posts. Regardless of what anyone asks, his most important part is what country they are from. Someone was asking if they should put pictures in plastic bags along with G325, but to him knowing the country is vital I guess to answering a question like that.

I think its just the wanting to be a mod/organizer and not having the priviledge that is getting to him :)

aying,

Don't forget that staying out of the US for more than 6 months resets your "continuous residence" timeline. So, if you are planning on applying for naturalization, you might not want to stay away for more than 6 months at a time.
