OK -- interview day!

Got on BART at 7:35 to get to our 9 AM appointment in SF. (Yeah, lots of time. BUT....)

We got there and got in line.

"Do you have a cellphone?"

"No," said my husband.

"Yes," sez I.

"Take it back to the car," says the guard.

"But we didn't come by car!" we both exclaim.

So, apparently, there's some sort of camera shop across the street that will babysit your cellphone for $3.

I run back to the building, and my husband and I go through security, where we discover that my husband had a dead cell phone in his backpack. So *he* runs across the street to arrange for cellphone-babysitting. By the time he got back, he was pretty steamed.

We get up to the waiting room at about 8:35. We sit and watch CNN and see the other AOS folks wander in, some with attorneys in tow. The attorney with the couple who were sitting behind us says to his clients that "the agent will probably mark that your case is pending further review, but that's OK. They usually do that."

At about 9:15 an agent comes out and calls our name. We follow him down several hallways to his office. He introduces himself but doesn't tell us his first name. He looks over our file and notices that we've moved, so he makes corrections and then asks the "are you a terrorist/communist/druggie" questions. He then has my husband sign the amended form.

He asks us how we met, when we decided to get married. He asks me what are the first names of my husband's parents, and who attended our wedding. (Later, when I complain to my husband about ME getting all the questions, he tells me it's because I look "dodgy.")

He then asks for some additional documentation. We produce our rental agreement, a letter from the utility announcing a service disruption addressed to both of us, some wedding photos -- we really didn't have a lot, which gave me pause -- we don't have people take too many photos of us, we don't share finances (my bank account was drained by an ID thief about a year ago), but the agent didn't let on. I'm sure nearly all of you have more than we do!

The agent tells us that he's checking the "pending further review" box, but adds that he thinks he'll be stamping the approval later that day.

I walk out sorta bummed, but my husband tells me what he overheard back in the waiting room with the attorney.

We go back home, take a nap. I wake up, check my email:

EDIT: I should add that while they totally flipped out over cellphones, the digital camera I had inadvertently left in my purse came through security without a remark.

Well Guys....

after 165 days, a horrible lawyer, an RFE we didnt know existed and an awesome senator's office I am beyond happy to report that Adam's EAD Card was approved last night!!!!!!!!!

I got the email on my phone and I just sat there in disbelief because its just been SO long.

Thank you all so much for all the support and encouragement and mutual USCIS bashing we've shared!

Congrats.. now you can be part of the 6.1% or so that are unemployed in the US....like the rest of us..hehhehe

It's a few blocks away from either Montgomery Street BART or Embarcadero BART. We walked from Embarcadero so we could walk past the crazy parrots that live in the park.

So we walked up Drumm Street to Clay, and then right on Sansome.
