Has anyone heard of getting their AOS without a interview? My wife and I were shocked when we got a letter from the USCIS saying her AOS was approved and we had never had an interview. 2 days later she received her actual green card so I guess it's real. But we were expecting an interview and when we received the letter we assumed that it was the interview date. I guess we should be glad but it just seems strange that the government would make something shorter and easier!!! We filed on Dec 5 and the letter arrived on Feb 25, less than 3 months!

I guess I'm just afraid they will revoke it saying they made some mistake...

Anyway I was just wondering if anyone had a similar experience or had heard of one.

BTW:

She arrived here from the Philippines on a k-1 visa Sept 5 and we were married on Nov 24.

Really...cool. It's just everything I read and heard, including the lawyer that helped us with the K-1 paperwork, said we would have an interview...I thought the interview was only "optional" when the conditional status was lifted two years later.

I don't mean to pry, but are you financially in good shape?

My experience and that of other couples we know is that if the sponsoring spouse has proved in their affadvit that they are relatively affluent (say making over +80K per year) then the INS hardly bothers you. We know couples where the sponsoring husband/wife is making less than 50K, but obviously above the poverty +25% limit, then it appears there are a lot more questions from the INS (and potential problems too). Seems really unfair if everybody has their paper work in shape and money is only the deciding factor going into the "harassment" element. But I guess the INS has to protect the American taxpayer from the potential that someone might go on public assistance....sigh.

But regardless, good for you, and good luck in the future!

Several people here on VJ have been approved without an interview, including me, just yesterday and in spite of a problem with my case!!

We are not making 80K a year, or even 50K a year, so I'm not sure about the comment about that, the only problem we had was them losing my medical and we didn't have any other questions.... but our paperwork was definitely in order.

Sorry to take DMK's post slightly off topic, but I have a question for both DMK and Melyssa. Since you both didn't have to go through the interview process, did the INS request that you send in the I-94 card from your passport? I've heard that when a Green Card interview is successful they will take the card from the applicant's passport right then and there in the office at the time of the interview.

I only make about 42K a year, with a little stock in the company I work for and some money in a 401K. I submitted docs of the stock and 401K in an effort to make my financial status look a little better.

But it's good to hear that I'm not the only one who hasn't needed an interview. It puts to rest my fears that we will get a letter in the mail saying there was some mix-up

Nope. I did go to Canada recently (using my AP papers to get back) and on the way back they took the I-94 from my passport and replaced it with a new I-94 that is valid until next February! Although I won't need it now! ;)
