Timeline

A couple of weeks ago we got cancellation notice in the mail for our original interview set for today.

When we went in today we were told that we'd have no interview because either my wife's maiden name or her now married name recieved a "hit" while going through background check. So now it is pending and we will be sent a new interview notice when it clears.

Some info for everyone in this situation:

We were told that every Monday they check the status of all of the pending background checks.

Also the officer we spoke with mentioned the pressure that they are getting over this stuff. He said that they are always getting emails of newspaper articles from around the US talking about this problem and that were beginning to put more pressure on the CIA (that's the agency that he mentioned.. not the FBI) to push the checks through.

He mentioned a new mandate that says that if a check is pending for 180 days, then they start what he called an internal audit on the check.

Also of interest, he said that while it seems silly even to him, they take this stuff very seriously and they very often send officers out into the field to do actual physical observations and checks.... What exactly this means I don't know...

So now we wait. He said that he expects that we'll have a new interview by August... but we'll see.

So close yet...

Good luck to everyone else going through all of the processes.

if they really started the new reuls ,it doesn't make any sense to me to resecuduel a new interview ,they should approved her and then wait for the checkback ground to finish ,but this way they said something and do something else

It seems silly. So many people have had interviews and were told that they were approved pending on the name check. So are they just trying to find a way to delay giving out a green card because of that new thing of giving it anyway after 180 days?

Hi,

Our interview was also cancelled, supposedly March 24 and like you we will be going there. I wonder what's the reason for our cancellation. I find August too far for a reschedule. Hope they can give you a much earlier reschedule, you deserve it. Good Luck.

A few other members have reported no interview scheduled and when an infopass appt was made, they cited because the namecheck wasn't cleared. There was at one point a memo that indicated if the check isnt back with favorable results, the interview would be delayed until such occurred. I can only think of 2 people that this happened to. Otherwise interviews have taken place and status pends until completion of the namecheck. This was back around when we had our interview, so I dont know if they would still be holding to those seemingly local rules.

Thank you that makes more sense.

since both our interviews were cancelled and we had the same date and office I think that it has to do with the date rather than anything else cos I know that my name check went through.
