Tremors have been felt across England this morning, according to Sky News witnesses.

'Quake' read 4.7 on Richter scaleThe epicentre of the expected earthquake is said to have been Kingston upon Hull, 15 miles north from Lincoln.

The tremor, timed at 12:56am, read 4.7 on the Richter scale.

Reports of homes and offices shaking have been received from North Yorkshire to Greater London.

Viewers in Rugby, Oldham, London, Windsor, West Yorkshire, Blackpool and Dunstable have all recorded being awoken by the tremor.

People have told how their beds shook, although there have been no reports of injury or damage.

Sylvia Tidy-Harris from Ellistown, Leicestershire described the experience as a "real boneshaker".

"It was like a big juggernaut was coming down the road. It was very loud and the whole house shook."

Mel Garratt from south Lincolnshire said the tremor lasted from five to 10 seconds.

Sky News correspondent Lisa Dowd said the tremor was similar to a substantial earthqauke in 2002, which had the town of Dudley as its epicentre.

That tremor recorded the largest shake in the UK for over a decade.

I'm currently living in Kingston Upon Hull.

We woke up at 1am-ish to the bed shaking violently and a few things getting knocked over. We lied awake for a couple of hours wondering what the hell it was. Typical 1am conversation, I thought it was a ghost shaking the bed like in the movies.

Jonny felt the aftershock at 2:30am-ish and I was just getting back to sleep. I woke up when he asked me if I felt it. I sleepily said no I didn't feel it but I heard it go 'hmmmmmmmmmmmm' lol 'Go back to sleep, Vikki'

Man, I moved from Hurricane Alley to have earthquakes instead?!?

I live in Grimsby, Lincolnshire.

The epicentre was about 15 miles from me in Market Rasen.

It woke me up at about 1am, the bed was shaking!!!! My first thought was that one of the big oil refineries on the Humber bank had blown up. The shaking lasted about 10 seconds, it was scary. There have been lots of chimney stacks fall down and some structural damage to buildings but nothing too bad and no injuries, thank goodness!!!

There was an aftershock at about 4am but that was only mild.

BBC's reporting it was 5.3 magnitude, now! Biggest earthquake in 25 years - and the first one I've felt!

I was much further away from the epicentre, but I did feel it - thought someone was trying to break in/the neighbours were being noisy at first!

So you're just across the bridge from us then!

I thought there was one around 4 but when I read the news articles they all said around 2:30 and if I was just drifting back to sleep I thought it would make sense for it to be around 2:30 anyway. I swear I thought I felt something a couple of times but I think that may just be because I was so scared and everything made me jump. This was my first time, you see ;)

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Well, a quake of this sort wouldn't attract any attention at all in a place like, say, Japan or California.
