I think you have to have "accomplished" a lot in order to be in the position to run for President.

I agree with that. This was just an opportunity for those that bash Obama's lack of *experience* to prove that Hillary has done more. It's just a reversal of their attacks on Obama.

All you need is a modest house in a modest neighborhood

I am NOT a big fan of McCain but at least he has a track record (good and bad) to point to. He is the only one that really does have experience. Clinton and Obama would be learning on the job. Do we want that again?

Again? What do you mean, Gary?

Your sides point that Bush didn't have much experience is true to a point. Same can be said for Clinton 1. At least they had some experience as governors. What we would get with Hillary and Obama will be much worse. They have zero experience running anything.

Is this the same Gary who called McCain a RINO and said he'd never vote for him?

As I said many times, I am not a McCain fan in any way. He isn't a rep IMO. But when given the choice between Clinton, Obama and McCain he is the least disagreeable of the three. The only reason I would vote for him is because of the Supreme Court appointments coming up. Other than that I really don't care who wins.

A court going more conservative than it already is would be horribly bad for this country. Since that would make the court really represent only one ideology, in a country of diverse ideologies. Not to mention, it would more likely that decisions by the court would be determined by politics and less interpretation of the constitution and of other decisions.

In my opinion, the best court would be 3 conservatives, 3 liberals and 3 independents. That way, and descsion that the court makes, should be relatively in line with the values of all the people, not just the few that follow a particular ideology.

I would love to see at least 2 more strong conservatives on the court. The liberals making law from the bench has to stop. That is the only reason I will vote for McCain.

There are already 5 conservatives on the court, if anything, we need more centrists/independents.

Nope, we need a court that does it's job, decides if laws conform to the constitution. What the liberals on the court have done is make law from the bench. We need 100% of the judges that are strict constructionists.

You do realize that a strict interpretation of the second amendment does not prevent states or cities from banning the private ownership of guns? (Although it would be unlikely that many cities or states would choose to do so)

Wasn't it Earl Warren who started doing that?

That's quite a different tune than the one you singing back when Fred Thompson was running. I hear what you are saying...it's just that I was trying back then to get you to acknowledge that you can't be a single issue voter, especially if your candidate is no longer in the race.

We need a court that will overturn Roe v. Wade.

Experience is over-rated. Seriously. Voters aren't always looking for experience. If they were, every incumbent would win. Who has better experience of running the US than the guy who's already doing it?

Voters want change. Neither Clinton nor McCain offer that, despite their rhetoric.

Thats not likely to happen even with a conservative court. Unless decisions go from being made based on the law to being based on politics and ideology.

I am a strong states rights type of person. I am happy with the power in the states hands.

Excellent point. And quite relevant to the issue of term limits - why do we have them? I thought being an insider was out of fashion?
