I wish we were dealing with AOS in a proactive manner. We haven't heard anything since November when my wife went in for her biometrics. You have people that applied in February and had an interview in mid-May and now have their green cards, and we're here, still waiting. It's annoying.

I guess you guys are dealing with the NYC field office? I've heard it's pretty backed up there. I hope you hear something soon!

Congratulations, Liz-Bone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your review is magnificent in its descriptiveness and detail. It should be required reading for upcoming interviewees. Thanks especially for reaffirming the value of the petitioner's attendance in terms of getting better treatment there, and the value of arriving "loaded" with preparation and documents.

The best news is that you now get to leave Ecu and come here! When's your flight?

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I don't know what's going on. The website says the case is being processed at the National Benefits Center. I hope so too. My bank is HSBC, and they won't let me add my wife to my account without a green card. It's because they recently had to pay $9 billion in fines because of the whole drug thing, I get hazy on the details. And my credit card is from HSBC as well, and it's the same story. We do have AP/EAD, but she is taking this time to just focus on the language. Thankfully, my salary allows us to live comfortably right now. Children? That's another issue. Hehehe.

Yesterday, was my cats' first birthday, and the wife begged me to do this...

Indeed it is. I guess you're flying soon, since you requested the visa be issued the same day. I'm still surprised by that one...

Did you go get her a Social Security Card? That was the first thing I did after we got in the country. Makes many things much easier when she can present a SS card.

I would ask to speak to a higher up at HSBC. They have no legal basis to deny what you ask. I got my Wife a bank account with nothing more than her Passport and Social Security Card. Received no hassle at all. I think the bank is required by law to give you a valid reason for not allowing her to be on your account and what they told you is not valid. Push harder or simply move your money elsewhere. Wells Fargo, Bancorp South and American Express all had 0 issue putting my wife on my accounts.

Thank you! happy.png Special thanks to you! You were especially helpful and insightful throughout this whole terrible process with Guayaquil, and I attribute part of our success to your insistence to over prepare and self educate on the process. smile.png And obviously I'll stick around so we can help future Ecua-filers together!

We're flying out at 11 PM on June 10th, so we'll be home by around 3 PM on June 11th. Very excited! dancin5hr.gif

I would be going crazy. Like dalupus said, I would either insist harder or maybe just open an account in another bank. What a pain!

I showed my husband your cat's birthday picture and we had a good laugh. laughing.gif It looks like something I would do for my chihuahua.

We do have her social security card and a state ID card. And we only tried once at the bank twice, at two different branches. The first branch we went to, they told us that they needed a state ID card to open an account. We got that, and then went to another one because it was closer, they told the green card fiasco. My wife was so angry, rightfully so, that we just decided to wait for the card. We didn't think that it would be so long. And we haven't really had a need for it because I'm currently out on sick leave from work and we're together all the time. So money availability is not an issue, when she needs something we go and buy it, or buy online, or I just give her cash. Maybe two more months until we hear something.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming of US Consulate in Guayaquil, Ecuador!

Interesting. I would just call and ask to get an additional credit card for your wife. They only ask for the name and SSN I think and they don't verify any ID's since it is over the phone. You might even be able to request an additional card online.

I actually haven't been able to get my wife's state ID card. For some reason her information isn't showing up in the system they use to verify the visa with homeland security. They told me they would research it and call me back.

Ofcourse I never heard from them again. Eventually when I get some time I'll go back to the DMV and yell at them.

Hola a todos!!!! It has been very helpful for me to read this forum because we just got our NOA2 2 days ago but I really don't know how to proceed after this. I live in Guayaquil but I've heard the consulate takes some time to contact you to give you the package that you need for the interview. I saw online that you can download the package. Do I need to wait for them to contact me or should I just start doing all the paperwork? We still have no nvc number... Thank you for your help

You can check on the consulate's website to see when they receive the packet from the USA. http://guayaquil.usconsulate.gov/cases-ready-for-interview2.html Check the lists under appointment package.

Once they get it just make your appointment. I never actually received the packet the consulate supposedly sent out so I wouldn't sit around and wait for that to show up.

And yes start doing the paperwork and most importantly collecting evidence (ie pictures, bank statements ... )

Also make sure you both have all the dates associated with your relationship memorized. (ie date you met, date you got engaged, how many times you have visited....)

Actually, the consulate website won't show that. It will show after they receive it after a while. It's better to be on top of them. Call the NVC around 2 weeks after you received your noa2 and see if they have sent it to Guayaquil and they will give you your GYQ number. And then email the consulate, like I told you on the other thread. They respond fairly quickly.
