I am engaged to my fiancee. We submitted our K-1 visa papers and it was received November 5, 2007. Could we get married outside of the country by religion? or is it not good since I requested the K-1Visa. HAs anyone tried it?

Thank you

You can have a wedding, but you cannot get married.

In most countries having a wedding alone is not a marriage. You generally need to file some paperwork before the wedding can be considered a marriage. If you skip that step in your plans, you wont run into any issues with the K-1 visa. But its preferable to do it after you have already received your visa.

You can do a purely ceremonial wedding prior to entry and follow it up with a legal marriage stateside.

You can do it, but IMO its asking for trouble if the consulate finds out. If the consulate knows you had a religous ceremony, then you have to convince them you're not legally married. It can cause a big headache. Alot of it depends on how picky your consulate is and if it's a high-fraud one. Just my $.02

I agree with yassmine. To be safe, you can have the religious ceremony when you visit her home country again after you have both settled it here properly.
