Hi, just a few questions about the police report for packet 3.

1. Can my fiance' walk in and wait on the report or will it take 2 or 3 weeks?

2. How much is the fee (if any)?

3. Does she need to take her passport or other documents?

Thanks for the info.

For Filipino fiancee, she will be required to submit NBI clearance. I see that she recently moved to Canada. Here's a link that pertains to Filipinos applying for NBI clearance from abroad (items 6 and 7)

http://www.nbi.gov.ph/faq.htm The fees and requirements are listed down there. Processing itself takes only one day but hers could take weeks to arrive due to distance.

As for Canada police clearance, I don't think she would need one if she stayed in Canada for less than 6 months.

I just got mine in Langley BC and all I did was go in to my local RCMP detachment. I had to supply them with ID (Drivers license was fine). It took all of 15 minutes to complete the check and the fee was $35.00. I didn't have my packet 3 yet and they didn't question why I was requesting the criminal check.

My understanding is if they get a hit on the name search then they have to do a fingerprint search and that can take many months to get the results.

Don't know about Edmonton. But I went to the RCMP here in Montreal. I was asked to show 2 pieces of ID, one of them should have your address. Unfortunately, I don't have a driver's license and had to show them my Chateauguay resident card  plus two other ID's that were more acceptable but didn't show any address. The medicard here in Quebec does not show any address. The guy asked me what it is for, took my picture (to put on the certificate) and asked me to fill out a form. After 3 minutes, he came out with my certificate. I paid $ 25.00 cash (they ask for cash). So the whole process was only about 5 minutes long. I had to wait for 15 minutes before my number was called, though.

That's my experience.

Best bet is to call the detachment. Time and fee varies across Canada. Even the appearance of the cert varies!! Soem include a pic, some do not!! Cheers

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I got my RCMP cert.(Police report) in Edmonton...you just go in, RCMP building is right across from Kingsway Mall.

Walked in told the girl at the desk what I needed...she asked for ID, also asked if I had any other names used...any drug lord alias or anything like that, she was pretty funny. Took about 10-15 minutes and there was no charge. This was back in September/October somewere in there.

Hi thanks for all the replies! My fiance' is set to go on Monday for her medical and her police report. She actually does not need the police report right now but may need it by the time her interview comes up so we will be getting one.

I did call RCMP and the lady said it was a $30 fee. My fiance' also needs NBI Clearance from the PHIL, which Patiently Waiting informed me of earlier in the post, thanks. My fiance' will fax the DS-230 back on Monday also so the only hold up is the NBIC she needs from the PHIL. Her family is going to call the NBI station in her home town and see what the quickest way to obtain it is.
