On Jena's green card they mispelled her middle name! I checked our copy of the form we sent and its spelled correctly.

Here name is displayed as FIRST NAME, MIDDLE INITIAL, LAST NAME. But further down on the card her middle name is spelled out and they got one letter wrong. We're going to call customer service tomorrow and talk to them about it. I'm just wondering how long it will take to fix. She doesn't have her SS# yet and tax time is coming soon. We hope they can fix it quickly.

This happened to us. I would'nt call the misinformation line. They did not give us the right information when we called. You will need to fill out an I-90 and send the card back. (make a copy of the card before you send it back too.) But prior to doing this make an info pass appointment. Take in your incorrect green card, copy of your I-485 documents, passport, birth certificate to show that it was spelled right on your paperwork and that it is a USCIS error. Ask for a I-551 stamp in her passport. This will allow her to travel and work without the actual green card.

You will not have to pay a fee for a new green card because it is a USCIS error.

On part 2 question #2 (reason for application) check "d" My card was issued with incorrect information because of a USCIS administrative error. I have attached the incorrect card and evidence of the correct information. ( we sent copy of I- 485 application, copy of passport, copy of birth certificate, ect.)

This is very important Send the I-90 and incorrect greencard to USCIS with signature confirmation. We sent Hachemi's green card and I-90 in June and until now have not received the corrected green card. They at first claimed they did not receive it until I showed them proof that they did. Then their story changed and they put in an inquiry about our I-90 and we havent heard anything yet. We had made another infopass appointment in December and they stamped his passport with another stamp that expires in one year. At this rate we will be ready to lift conditions by then.

Let me know if you have anymore questions.

One more thing I need to mention. They would not even tell us anything or look into what is taking so long for the corrected green card until 6 months had gone by. I had just happened to make a screen print of the online delivery confirmation as soon as it was delivered. This online delivery confirmations are purged from the computer systems only after a few months so get that copy and keep it in a safe place.

Meriem,

Thanks sooo much for all the information. Looks like we're in for a long wait for replacement. I have one question. Did Hachemi already have a Social Secrurity number? If not, will the stamp allow Jena to apply for a SS number?

The I-551 stamp is a temp Greencard, so it will allow you to get a SSN, it is also good for work and foreign travel...

I wanted to follow up on this old issue that we finally got resolved. After my wife got her SS card with no problems and her name was spelled correctly we decided not to pursue getting her greencard corrected. We knew it was just a minor printing error and they had her middle name spelled correctly in their system.

When Jena went for her biometrics for her 10 year greencard they noticed the problem with her old greencard and made mention of it. Luckily I had told her to bring her passport with her just in case. They asked to see it and verified the spelling of her middle name. They made a note in the system that her middle name was mispelled on her original greencard and put the correct spelling for the new 10 year card. She just got her card the other day and it's correct!

I admit we were lucky but we had no plans to travel out of the county or anything and no issues ever came up over the 2 years she depended on that greencard. It was one letter of her middle name only so we felt comfortable with our decision to not make an infopass or ask for any corrective action.

I guess I am used to taking chances. Like I've said before, if I wasn't willing to take risks, I would have never traveled halfway around the world to find true love! :D

Good luck on your journey everyone,

Kevin & Jena
