Passport photo- advice please!

Hello,

I have a Q regarding the passport photo. In the USCIS instructions they do not state the exact dimensions of the photo itself that they need. Just that the full frontal image must be one inch from your chin to the top of your hair. I read an informational page on a site giving a very precise description to what the photo should look like, also stating that it should be 2" by 2" in dimensions.

The problem with this is that everywhere he has gone to get a passport photo they only do....about 1 and a quarter by 2" and some 1 and a half by 1 and a half. So our option would be is if he went to a professional studio, who then told him it could take over a week to get the photo, we are trying to send this application ASAP! What should we do? I don't want to take a risk that USCIS will reject our photo and ask us for another and delay our app. so should we go ahead with the professional photographer.

Oh and yes, he has already tried to make one on his computer and keeps coming out with problems.

We got ours done at CVS pharmacy and they were the correct size. Try other pharmacies, such as, Walgreens, Rite-Aide, etc.

Well... he lives in Norway so that is the problem, there are no Walgreens, etc.

Why not post your question in the Europe forum or by clicking into the Norway country portal you can ask another VJ member who came through Norway, where they got their pictures taken.

 The face must be square to the camera with a neutral expression, neither frowning nor smiling, with the mouth closed.

 If the photographs do not meet the specifications, you will have to provide new photographs before your application can be processed.

Requirements

 Provide two photographs of yourself and each accompanying family member with your application.

 Your photographs must comply with the specifications below. If the photographs do not meet the specifications, you will have to provide new photographs before your application can be processed.

 Photographs must be printed on quality photographic paper.

Specifications

 The photographs must be identical and taken within the last six months. They may be either black and white or colour.

 The photographs must be clear, well defined and taken against a plain white or light-coloured background.

 If the photographs are digital, they must not be altered in any way.

 Your face must be square to the camera with a neutral expression, neither frowning nor smiling, and with your mouth closed.

 You may wear non-tinted prescription glasses as long as your eyes are clearly visible. Make sure that the frame does not cover any part of your eyes. Sunglasses are not acceptable.

 A hairpiece or other cosmetic accessory is acceptable if it does not disguise your normal appearance.

 If you must wear a head covering for religious reasons, make sure your full facial features are not obscured.

Photograph and Head Size Specifications

 The frame size must be at least 35 mm x 45 mm

(1 3/8" x 1 3/4").

 The photographs must show the full front view of the head, with the face in the middle of the photograph, and include the top of the shoulders.

 The size of the head, from chin to crown, must be between

31 mm (1 1/4") and 36 mm (1 7/16").

 Crown means the top of the head or (if obscured by hair or a head covering) where the top of the head or skull would be if it could be seen.

 If the photographs do not meet the specifications, you will have to provide new photographs before your application can be processed.

Visa Photo Requirements

The photograph for each visa applicant must be an unmounted, full face photo, as described below

• The photograph must have been taken within the last six months

• One (1) photograph must be submitted stapled or glued to the application DS-156.

Photo Size

• The photo for each visa applicant submitted must measure:

• 2 by 2 inches (5 cm x 5 cm) with the head centered in the frame.

• The head (measured from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin) should measure between 1 inch to 1 3/8 inches (25 mm to 35 mm) with the eye level between 1 1/8 inch to 1 3/8 inches (28 mm and 35 mm) from the bottom of the photo

Photo Appearance

• The photograph must be a full-face view in which the visa applicant is facing the camera directly.

• The applicant should not look down or to either side, and the face should cover about 50 percent of the photo area.

• Side or angled views are NOT accepted.

• The photograph may be in color or black and white, but must have only a white or off-white background. Photos with dark, busy, or patterned backgrounds will not be accepted.

• In general, the applicant's head, including both face and hair, should be shown from the crown of the head to the tip of the chin on top and bottom and from hairline side-to-side. It is preferable that ears be exposed.

• Head coverings and hats are only acceptable due to religious beliefs, and even then, may not cover any portion of the applicant's face.

• Sunglasses or other wear which detracts from the face are not acceptable unless required for medical reasons (an eye patch, for example).

• A photograph depicting a person wearing a traditional facemask or veil that does not permit adequate identification is not acceptable.

• Photos of military, airline, or other personnel wearing hats are not acceptable. Photographs of applicants wearing tribal, national costume, or other headgear not specifically religious in nature are not acceptable.

Digital Photos

Digitally reproduced photographs must be reproduced without discernible pixels or dot patterns. Photocopied photographs are NOT accepted.

Attaching the Photo to the DS-156

Staple or glue the one photograph to the DS-156 in the designated space. If the photograph is stapled, staples should be placed as far away as possible from the applicant's face. Do not enclose photographs in glassine or other types of envelopes. The photograph must be stapled or glued properly to the DS-156 in the designated space.

Applications submitted with photos that do not meet this format may encounter delays.

Please Note:

Photos should be stapled or glued to the non-immigrant visas application (DS-156). If the photogpraph is stapled, the staples should be placed as far away as possible from applicant's face.

8.One color non-glossy full-face photo 50x50 mm for visa. The eye level should be between 28mm and 35mm from the bottom. Another two pictures will be required for medical examination.

He may be able to do his own online...there are other guides and instructions available online as well, good luck!

Sorry, I missed the tail end of you OP...perhaps you could make them from you end and have them shipped directly to him? Or can he borrow a friend computer?

In any case...sounds like a total pain...good luck.
