I asked my manager about getting a signed letter from her stating my position & wage with the company. She says that they usually provide a form for her to fill out. Is there a form out there for an employer to fill out & sign then? She said there's no other way of her doing it besides that...

I'd explain to your employer that the letter needs to be on company letterhead, or to have your supervisor's or human resource person's business card attached, as to verify that it is official.

If it were a blank form, anyone could fill in whatever odd info they wanted. While a mortgage company or potential employer may call to verify that the info on a 'form' is accurate, I can't imagine that embassy interviewers have time to call and follow up with each employer and verify each letter. (But then, maybe they do, so make sure the info in the letter is accurate.)

She might be intimidated at the thought of writing a letter from scratch. Maybe you could write up a sample letter that she could use, to make the process less painful. Heck, offer to type it up, and she could sign it after verifying for herself that what you stated is correct!

And when I was an office manager, I wrote letters like this all the time for employees. No one ever brought me a form!

Ah I see! Thanks for answering. I want to go ahead & type them up tonight, since I see both of my employers tomorrow & I present them with the papers.

What exactly do I write though? If someone can write me an example of what it should look like, that would be greatly appreciated. :)

I don't want to write it up to what I think it's supposed to look like & find out that I was very wrong!!

On the I-134 instructions it gives a list of what they need the letter from employer to say.

Statement of your employer on business stationery, revealing:

1. Date and nature of employment;

2. Salary paid;

3. Whether the position is temporary or permanent.

My employment letter just stated

To whom it may concern,

Amber (lastname) HAS WORKED AT THIS STORE SINCE 07/19/2007 AND WORKS PART TIME. SHE MAKES (insert amount) PER HOUR.

SINCERELY,

(supervisor's name)

Personnel Manager

I just gave her the first page of the I-134 instructions and she wrote it.

and it is on company letterhead.

Go to your Human resources person. Explain it is the government wanting it and show the I-134 form where it says what is needed. Should work with a little explanation.

My company did their own thing about the wording. I gave them the wording, they chose to ignore, but the intent was correct and usable

I just copied the example from VJ and e-mailed it to my boss. She copied exactly that onto letterhead and signed it. Fast and easy - then I repeated it again for our AOS interview although I didn't need a new one.

God it's such a joke, I can't help but be mortified and giggly too every time I think of having to fill out an Affidavit for my like...few hundred dollars of chump change. I think when I have to list assets I'm gonna put down my Gamecube and stuff like that just to satirize :D

Haha I know, I think it's silly that I need to even fill one out. I make like 5k/year at a part time job lol. But I guess every little bit helps :whistle:

Good thing I have a good cosigner! :blush:
