yes, for sure; use them on your birthday :)

one of the boxes we bought even said that on the back - that it's a UK tradition to have them at all manner of celebrations, including birthdays... though I have to say I think that was more marketing BS than truth ;)

but why not, if you want to?! go for it :D

 I read that too - I roared at the fact we are meant to have them at Bar Miztvahs and the like!!!

What -- you don't use them at Bar Mitzvahs?

Yeah, we forgot to get them out too. We eventually remembered at around 11pm, when his mum had gone to bed -- B got a bottle opener to put on a keychain, and I got a toy car; guess what -- we switched. We have 4 left over, and we'll use them on NYE.

I'm sure my crackers have the crappy prizes, but I still think they are fun! Maybe my birthday, or we'll just use them on NYE and let the kids have extras since there are no bar mitzvahs coming up. :P

Hahaha! Never been to a bar mitzvah. I don't really know many Jewish people, in fact. Where I live, the population is highly Roman Catholic. A church on every corner and a pizzeria on the opposite corner!

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

 I'm glad it's not just me that found it funny and, dare-I-say, somewhat ridiculous!!!

I just applied for authorisation to travel with that new ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) thing for my trip in April and was nicely suprised at how quick it was. I expected it to take a couple days but it was instant.

I have to somehow concoct a mince pie for hubster. I bought the jarred filling. He wants a bunch of small mince pies as he's the only one who'll eat them. The thing is, I stink at making pie crust and can't find small frozen ones!

Julez - here's the recipe I used to make mine:

http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/517/favourite-mince-pies.aspx

It was sooo easy - I just cut the pastry a bit thick and had no pie tins but they otherwise turned out ok :)

Hmmm...thanks, aly. I'll try, but my advenntures with pastry have always have iffy results.

And yes, STP, you can pie frozen pie shells. They come in a cheap, disposable pie tin. You wouldn't approve, though, since you are tremendously green.

If you use a food processor for the dough, it just can't go wrong. Put in the butter first, add the dry ingredients, then the egg. Done.
