I haven't, but it does sound like fun. Have you seen Ken Burns' The Civil War?

Renaissance I have done, quite a bit. The most recent times I went as a monk :P

A couple guys I worked with before were civil war reenactors. They were extras in in a movie too. The camps they set up would even have women playing the role of 'lady of the evening'. They were really into the whole scene and fanatical about the details and history.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

You should read Confederates in the Attic by Tony Horowitz. He's a travel writer who spent quite a bit of time travelling in the south, visiting the Civil War sites and participating in reenactments. Its interesting and I laughed out loud several times while reading it :)

"Confederates in the Attic" is a great book on Civil War re-enacting. I am right in the heart of "Gone With the Wind" country and Civil War re-enacting is big here. My step daughter and her family - who live in Texas - are Civil war re-enactors (Cavalary) and Sutlers. My best friend here and her family are all CW Re-enactors. I was a War of 1812 re-enactor back in Canada and while I haven't quite made the full transition to Civil War time-period I have attended a few local events as a day-visitor, and one weekend event in Alabama. Re-enacting is a great hobby and if you are interested, go for it! I miss it. Even though I get my fix every now and then in small doses, it isn't the same as being full time in the hobby.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

There's a reenactment near here every year, it's happening next weekend, called the Brooksville Raid. I have been a bunch of times because we have friends who used to travel around always participating in them. I just went for the fun parts and food, not the battles really. The "balls" (dance party for the reenactors, only civil war era dances done) were kind of fun in a weird way. lol I guess it matters where you are. You can find some very odd people participating, who still think the south should have won. I am in Florida.

Our friends were always playing the role of Confederates, and there were some weird people in their "regiment" or whatever it's called. Some of the people seemed wayyyy too into it. They travel around to every reenactment they know of, going out of sate and everything. And they don't leave their reenacting personilites behind. It's like their whole life. I guess for some that is normal but I find it odd. But going to one is entertaining in it's own way, or participating occasionally could be fun. I've even dressed up with a big hoop skirt (about 8 years ago).

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)
