Last weekend a friend of Suj's visited us, he was taller than Suj, probably 5' 10" or something. The friend is Bengali though. So yeah I guess some families are just really short and some aren't lol.

Not to take this thread too much off course, but among Bengali Hindus I've observed distinct correlations between caste and height (and complexion).

Interesting...well, his friend wasn't very fair though. A little darker than Sujeet. I have no idea which caste though.

(funny what the thread has become haha)

So W Bengal is populated with the shorts? (PS I think I knew you were Bengali; momentary brain lapse)

Lots of short people and lots of tall people, too. Depends. Most of the street people will be short. The leaders are mostly tall though. It's very stratified.

So that's the caste correlation? My friend must be an exception. he's also kind of dark.

There are exceptions. The legend is that Bengali Brahmins migrated from the hills east of Delhi many centuries ago. So they should all be light and taller but obviously those short dark maids are hot and illicit fukcing did take place, thus screwing up all these neat little genetic theories.

Hehehe oops. Well at least they get to keep the fancy stuff. He showed me pictures of his family's palaces outside Calcutta. Sounds good to me. I want a palace! And a paid-for Ivy League MPH degree.

Yeah a lot of those families are swimming in money and land procured centuries ago. My own family had lots of land in what is now a very high-value part of WB but the Communists robbed us of it a few decades ago (illegal redistribution) and so now they're all poor. My dad got out when he could so I'm in the US. Lucky me.

My wifes ancestral home in Calcutta has 26 bedrooms and 13 kitchens.... There's about 15-20 families with homes like that in the city.

Do you get to stay there when you visit? Or is it in someone else's possesion now?

Other parts of her family have possession. Family soap opera, long story. I have to visit just to pay my respects to the head of the family but then I gotta go. Last time I said how about I crash here, and the family lawyer (he lives there too) politely insisted that I not. I later found out that they were worried as the new husband of one of the daughters of that family, I may be thinking of laying claim to part of the property. All I really wanted (at that time) was to not have to travel back cuz I was tired. I didn't even know I could stake a claim. Now I do know and I am considering it. It will cost money though and we'll have to get my in-laws out of India first or they'll probably kill them.

Of all different drama in Sujeet's family and such, I don't find it surprising. I could write some good soap operas from our own story, lol.
