PASSPORT NECESSARY?

My N-400 application is pending, and my Canadian passport expires in May/08.

I am going to be sending in my renewal passport (Canadian) application in soon. What if I don't get my new Canadian passport back before my Naturalization interview or the oath ceremony?

Is a passport required for either the Naturalization interview or at the oath ceremony?

You should bring the following identification to your interview: (a) your Permanent Resident or Alien Registration Card, ( B ) your passport (even if it has expired), and ( C ) any Re-entry Permits you have.

Yep it can expire, it is used as ID. When naturalization is approved you then have the option to apply for a US passport.

Since the passport is just for ID purpose, I wonder if the certificate of Canadian Citizenship card works the same as well.

I was a Chinese Citizen when I applied for my green card. Then while I was in US, I got my canadian citizenship, which made my chinese passport invalid. Then I tried to apply for canadian passport from US, and what a nightmare it was. It took about 3 months just for them to send my application back, saying my photo was not acceptable(it was so hard to find a place that takes canadian passport photo). And it took me another month just to get the package since it was sent to my old address. Long story short, it all possible, don't ever what to go throught that hassal again.

Anybody knows?

When I send in my application for a renewal Canadian passport, I have to send my current passport along with the application. What I'm worried about is that I won't have either my new renewal passport or my old passport back in time for my Naturalization interview or my oath ceremony. I have read that it is taking months to get a new passport now.

I guess what I'm asking is, should I just wait to send in my passport renewal application until after I have had my Naturalization interview and oath ceremony?

We are thinking of going to Wisconsin this summer, and my current passport expires in May, so if I wait to renew my Canadian passport, I won't be able to travel, right?

hi! i thought you could travel anywhere in the u.s. without a passport, just a proper ID???

now i'm nervous. my passport has long since been expired. i have no intention of renewing it...what a hassle with the philippine embassy. someone please clarify.

I think you can travel anywhere in the U.S. without a passport but you need to have an ID to show them though when your in the airport. I don't take my passport, and my green card when I travel here (US), but I always used my State ID. The reason I don't take my Green Card w/ me is I'm afraid to lost it. Thankfully no one is asking about my status here(US), my Green Card and Passport... If you're planning to travel outside the country don't forget to take your passport and green card.
