I have only been working full time for one year, before that I was a US peace corps volunteer in Ecuador for 2 years and therefore did not make anything and before that I was in college. I have my tax returns for the past three years, but it's not going to show anything for the past year that i have actually been working. Is this going to be a problem for when they look at my afidavit? I am making plent of money right now and only supporting myself so I don't think it will be a problem, but i'm kinda worried????

anyone know something about this??

Not trying to be rude, but I always think it's interesting how many people respond with "Just get a co-sponsor!" May I ask where? I know one gentleman now looking. He wants to bring his fiancée here. He knows no one willing to agree, including his own mother, sister, and brother. They love him and want to see him happy but they sure are not willng to put their neck (and their own family's assets and income) on the chopping block should something happen. How many people are willing to take financial responsible for paying back the government for a brother or sister's S/O? I wouldn't.

If you are worried you can get a co sponsor that earns over 125% of the poverty line and thus no problems.

Good luck with your journey :)

agreed.

my family will not do it for me either, so im taking the same risk as the OP.

i have only been earning the required amount for the past 6 months...i have a letter of employment, pay stubs and bank statements for the past 6 months, but my past three tax returns all say amounts below the poverty guidelines because i was in school.

hopefully it wont be a problem.

i have heard mixed responses on the topic.

Why would anyone want to get a co-sponsor if they earn the necessary amount?

The mixed responses are part of a particular anamoly we have around here - overly cautious responses due to a lack of research.

The first thing you should determine is if your consulate is 'weird' about the affidavit. A particular example is New Delhi where they want to see the last three years tax returns - no arguments - just produce them.

In most cases sponsors will find if they are earning enough at present, there is absolutely no need for a co sponsor.

When we processed I was worried about this and I carried a co-sponsor's affidavit with me in case the consulate didn't like mine. They were fine with my information and I was happy with that. I really didn't want to drag another individual into my personal life and I think most of us feel that way.
