His parents made bad choices. No license required to be a parent.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

And another thing. He picked a field that would do background checks. That's pretty stupid. I don't work with any illegal immigrants. How do I know? I undergo an extensive government background check.

Hmmm the saying goes in the UK that "nobody is as bent as a copper !!!!!"

I for one in my youth obtained a few items from a policeman that where a bit dubious in origin.

It wasn't this guys fault that he was bought to the USA as an illegal youngster, I think that he should of been allowed to join the police force given his past history. Here in the UK it would of been allowed I'm sure (human rights!!!).

Saying that he really shouldn't of lied, that is a 'no no' Maybe if he had told the truth something might have been sorted.

really ?

please explain this ... how it's a "human right" to break the law (willful ID theft for starters) ...

actually in this career ... he was screwed. He should just be saying ... "thanks mom ... thanks dad for setting me up to be deported. And ... shame on me for not making arrangements to be here legally ... before trying to be a cop"

Oh, how original, take a sad story and turn it into something outrageous with shouts of IDENTITY THEFT! I mean, it's not like he had the collaboration of the nearest relatives of the 'stolen identity' and of course he used this 'stolen' identity to swindle and extort.

Let's just stomp on him anyway, what the ######, he was here illegally, his parents were obviously morally bankrupt and clearly the result was this monster. America is a much better place now that he is being deported, hurrah!

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Obviously you haven't heard of the human rights act in the UK.

e.g. We had an Italian guy here who murdered a school headmaster. When his sentence was up, not so long ago, the government wanted to deport him but the courts over-ruled it saying that because he had been her since he was 9 that he had nothing in common with his home country and he should stay here.

Now I'm thinking that if this police officer was here then he would most definately be able to stay even if he did lose his job.

This story ended for me at "...when Mr. Ayala-Cornejo filled out recruitment papers, he used the name of a dead relative who had been a United States citizen." You want to be a cop but you used a false name?"

His father, Mr. Ayala-Cornejo said, came up with a solution: A cousin in Illinois had a son, Jose A. Morales, a United States citizen who had died of leukemia in Mexico. He and Mr. Ayala-Cornejo would have been about the same age, and the family offered to turn over Jose’s birth certificate and Social Security number so Mr. Ayala-Cornejo could realize his dream.

“I didn’t hesitate,” he said. “I was like, ‘O.K., if that’s the best option, then I’ll go for it, because I don’t want to be separated from my family.’ ”

So at age 16, Mr. Ayala-Cornejo switched high schools, registering under his new name. He cut his hair and, abandoning his eyeglasses, started wearing contact lenses. In public, he referred to his mother and father as his aunt and uncle, and he called his siblings cousins. “In a way, I became Jose,” he said, “because I knew there was no going back.”

After high school, he joined the police apprenticeship program in 2001. In May 2005, he was sworn in as Police Officer Jose A. Morales, and was later assigned to patrol the streets where he had been forbidden to play as a child. In one of his proudest moments, he stopped a suicidal man from cutting his own throat.

But in February of this year, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent received a tip that Oscar Ayala-Cornejo had assumed the name of Jose Morales. In May, he was arrested.

He and his parents admit to identity theft and being illegal. He used somebody elses identity ... a dead USCs ID ... it was not his parents or familys ID to give.

You called it ... identity theft.

And his providing fake identity was a continuing path on fraud and theft (using an ID that was not his and potentially taking a job from a legal person).

The US isn't the UK .. obviously.

I wonder how many times he lied under oath? Seems to me that is a crime also. As a cop I am sure he had to testify under oath and the first thing they ask is your name for the records.

I am tired of all these 'poor illegal immigrant' fluffy stories in the news. It is sad his parents made a choice that would effect him to degree for the rest of his life. He became aware he was illegal when he was a teen and further brought it upon himself when he used a false ID to get a job. I don't care if he used that ID for a job as a cop or a hotel maid, its the same difference and the entire lot should be deported and face permanent bans from the U.S.

I would like to see any news stories on the problems people are facing trying to get into the country legally. I would like to see them detail how USCs face waits of years to bring their spouses into the country and how they live on a daily basis dealing with the long delays and the separations. I would like to see these stories elicit just a fraction of the sympathy as the illegal immigrant stories do.

I'm against illegal immigration as much as the next guy, but I have my limits...

If someone was brought here as a young child, I think they should be allowed to stay. I agree that using his dead cousin's ID was wrong, but what choice did he feel that he had? The legal method could/would have taken many, many years. His method got him a job immediately. The fact remains that he DID - at least - use the ID of a deceased relative, rather than steal some living person's ID. I doubt that his cousin cared.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.
