wow...that's amazing! $119 a month for unlimited everything....i wish i knew about that a year ago..lol...i would have save a whole lot of moneyyy!! lol....well...thankfully, my husband will be here in a month or two...so i just gotta suffer for 2 more bills...haha..

sanfranguy, yeah...the texts are crazy expensive.....thank God for programs like yahoo messenger...haha....we could stay on there for hours and since we both have dsl, its as if we're on the phone...

...anyway, thanks for the info guys!!

Alex has a Helio phone. I'm not sure about the precise ins-and-outs but I do know he gets unlimited free international texts. The monthly package is a little steep but obviously if you're texting a lot it's going to save you a fortune! I have no idea if the service is available in your area, but I can safely say there are no catches - he's been sending me at least 900 texts a month and so far he's not been charged a cent!

There’s a waltz in my walk

And it’s been such a long time

Since there was hope in my talk

If you never knew

What it is that’s new.. it’s you

‘Cause when your hands are in mine

You set a fire that everyone can see

And it’s burning away

Every bad memory

To tell you the truth

If it’s something new.. baby it’s you

It’s you in the morning

It’s you in the night

A beautiful angel came down

To light up my life

The world’s a different place

Where nothing’s too hard to say

And nothing’s too hard to do

Never too much to go through

To tell you the truth

Everything that’s new.. baby it’s you

It’s you in the morning

It’s you in the night

A beautiful angel came down

To light up my life

My life, my life

Ohh

So if I get to grow old (oh if I get to grow old)

With many years behind me (many years behind me)

There’s only one thing I want (aahh)

One thing I need beside me

For all that you are

For everything you do

For all that you’ve done

Just for showing me the truth

yeah..i just saw that recently..i'm gonna add it one of these days...once i get around to it... hehe..

The Helio looked pretty nifty, actually. We looked at those over Christmas as a possibility; I wound up going with a CrackBerry from AT&T - who do have an international text package at $9.99 per month for 100 messages and then $.20 for additional.

I remember when my husband (then fiance) was overseas, I would call t-mobile every month when i'd get my (ridiculously high) bill. I'd keep asking about an international texting plan, all I ever heard was "ma'am there just isnt a demand for it, so we dont offer it" but maybe the real reason is, that charging me the $.25 or whatever per text is racking them in more money and they loved every second of it!

Glad that is over!

Before I got Luz a Vonage in the Philippines (you should check into that) I had a texting plan through Nextel. $5/month unlimited texting and it didn't matter they were going overseas. We would text hundreds of times a week. Now for her to send to me was another story. I think she said a text to me cost 5 peso (about 10 cents).

OK, this depends on whether or not high speed internet is available where your SO is.

I got a Vonage V-phone, and hand carried it to Jakarta. Signed up for high speed internet there in my wifey's home. For $60/mo (internet), $25/mo (Vonage charge) she has a Houston number in her home, i can call it and she can call me, all we want, at no other charge. It's the best investment I could have made. It's crystal clear, better than Pingo (internet international calling service), calling cards, or even direct cell-to-cell calls. We're leaving the V-phone there so that Nit can stay in contact with her family when she gets here.

The internet service we got there smokes, 1500 kbps, as opposed to the 1200 kpbs that I have here on cable. We tried the wireless internet service there first, it was a little cheaper but it was spotty so we dumped it.

Hope that helps

Regards,

David and Nitadyah

You need pretty good internet access to use Vonage reliably. It doesn't have to be super high bandwidth, but it needs to have relatively low latency. If you don't need the ability to call phone lines, most IM clients have a computer to computer voice feature.

Luz had a very poor internet DSL service in PI. 256 down and 125 up is what was advertised and I doubt it ever got that fast. Vonage still worked very well on that line. The only problem was she couldn't surf the net while talking, the connection would cut out. Still, for the $50/month for the DSL and $15/month for the vonage it was a real deal.

lol..yeah, at&t didn't have an international texting plan until recently..i think it was in may that i called and asked and they told me the same thing...i thought any texting plan would work..so i added the texting plan and i was surprised when my bill came super high the next month...turned out they charged me for the plan as well as each and every international text i sent...

...okay, so i added the new at&t international texting plan...its $9.99 per month for 100 text messages...that brings the price down to $.10 per message as opposed to $.25...!!!!!...haha...and if you go over, they're only $.20 per message....and incoming texts cost $.10 also, i believe, but if you have a regular texting plan, then they come out of that...

hope that info is useful..enjoyy..:)

My sweetie and I can text all we want for free.

My Sprint plan doesn't charge international rates because I don't have to enter a country code, and she has a phone that can access the net, so she just sends email to the Sprint PCS SMS gateway and it gets automatically forwarded to my phone. Most companies have some form of email gateway, including many overseas, and most cell phones can send text messages to an email address... I still say it's worth asking about in any case.
