Best way to contact Visa Unit:

Approx Waiting Time for Interview After Consulate Recieves
NVC Package: |
10 days - 1 month |
Issues Packet 3? |
|
Packet 3 Contains: |
- Cover letter with case number (can be requested via email earlier already!)
- the package 3 only(!) contains a link to the website below. So you might could start that process a couple of days earlier before you receive that official letter with the link.
Upon receipt of this notification, please download and complete the following forms and follow the steps outlined below
from: http://germany.usembassy.gov/visa/iv/step3/
1.) Immediately fill out and mail in:
- DS-230
- DS-156
- DS-156K (do not sign form; you are required to sign it before a consular officer on the day of your interview)
- DS-157 (for all male applicants between the ages of 16-45)
- document checklist.
2.) Follow the checklist instructions, collect the documements listed and mail in the signed "Applicant Statement" when all documents are collected:
- K-Visa IV Document Checklist and Applicant Statement
http://germany.usembassy.gov/root/pdfs/visa/instructions_for_fiancee_-visa_applicants01-2008.pdf
What do I do first?
The biographic data form DS-230-I (pdf) should be completed for each person applying for a visa, regardless of age. The form may be photocopied if insufficient copies are received for each family member. The DS-230-I (pdf) should be completed and returned immediately to the Immigrant Visa Unit at
U.S. Consulate General
Giessener Strasse 30
60435 Frankfurt am Main
in order for the Consulate to begin the administrative processing of the application. At the same time, please complete and return the form DS-156 and DS-156K (pdf) (only required for fiancé(e) visa applicants), and DS-157 (pdf) if applicable.
Note: Please do not sign the DS-156K (pdf) (only required for fiancé(e) visa applicants). The forms must be signed before a consular officer on the day of the visa interview. Failure to return the DS-230-I promptly will delay the processing of the application.
Detailed information on what documents are needed for the interview (see checklist) is also stated on the website.
You can check your visa status now here:

Forms to Consulate? |
As described in Form DSL-1076:
- a photocopy of each page of your passport
- one passport style picture (attached to Form DS 156)
- Form DSL-1076: visa instructions for fiance(e) nonimmigrant visa applicants (checklist)
- DS-230
- DS-156 (in duplicate)
- DS-156K (do not sign form; you are required to sign it before a consular officer on the day of your interview)
- DS-157 (for all male applicants between the ages of 16-45)
The checklist form is actually misleading – at the bottom of Form DSL – 1076 it says: “ You should bring all of the above pertinent documents and the application forms with you to the interview”; thus you should send back the checklist and DS 230 – as everything else is an application form or a document.
http://germany.usembassy.gov/visa/iv/step5/ |
Other Forms (if any)? |
As described in Form DSL-1076:
- Form DS 156k (the checklist says to return this one as well – however it needs to be signed in front of a consular officer)
- Your Passport (must be valid for travel to the U.S. and must have at least 6 months validity) (Pls note: if yours is to expire soon – apply for a new one well ahead. Currently it takes 4 – 6 weeks to obtain a new one. Cost: 59,00 Euro over age 24, you’ll need 1 passport picture German style)
- Your birth certificate (in Germany you can obtain an International Birth Certificate for EUR 7 - 10, any further copy costs half; it makes sense to get more than one, as you will need it for AOS)
- Police Certificate (if applicant is living in their country of nationality at their current residence for more than 6 months, lived in a different country for more than 12 months or was arrested for any reason, regardless of how long they lived there http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/reciprocity/index.htm) (Pls note: it currently takes 1 - 2 weeks to get this for Germany; it costs EUR 13)
- Photographs (Three/one color photographs which meet Department of State Immigrant Visa Photo Requirements http://germany.usembassy.gov/visa/photographs/)
- Evidence of Support (as per Form I-134 http://germany.usembassy.gov/root/pdfs/visa/general_information_sheet_-i-134.pdf)
- Evidence of Relationship (e.g. letters, photographs or other evidence of your engagement)
- Original birth certificate, or certified copy
If applicable, original copies of:
- Police (Court and Prison) Records
- Adoption certificates
- Military Records
- Marriage Certificate(s) / Divorce decree(s) or death certificate(s) (if previously married)
The checklist form is actually misleading – at the bottom of Form DSL – 1076 it says: “ You should bring all of the above pertinent documents and the application forms with you to the interview”; thus you should send back the checklist and DS 230 – as everything else is an application form or a document.

If you do not have a vaccination history, you may obtain a blood test to determine your titre levels from your general practitioner. The results (and records of any missing immunizations which were given) can be faxed to the panel physician's office, or brought with you.
For Women: You will NOT need a HPV vaccination anymore (January, 2010!)

Cheap and good hotels near the Consulate? |
Depends on the time of year. Frankfurt hosts several international fairs during which hotel prices sky rocket. You can find out about hotel rooms at http://www.frankfurt-tourismus.de/. The consulate is close to the Nordend.
Hotel Friedberger Warte is right across the street from the rear of the Consulate:
Homburger Landstrasse 4
60389 Frankfurt Am Main
tel: 069 76 80 64 500
(€99,00 with breakfast on a Sunday night - Sept 2006)
(Please note: For anyone who needs to visit the American Consulate/Embassy in Frankfurt, right now (March 2007) the hotel Friedberger Warte (a four star hotel across from the Consulate) has a special offer. For one night for two people, it costs only 44 Euros (including all taxes) with breakfast if you use the website www.ebookers.de. You may also search for the best rate by using www.tripadvisor.com, searching on the hotel's name, and then doing a rate search. Some sites advertised a rate of over 100 Euros per night, so take some time looking and you may find a better rate. The hotel has free overground parking.)
for cheaper hotels but still in walking distance: try hotel alleenhof or pension stella. from hotel alleenhof you walk about 15-20min to the consulate. it costs 55€.
|
Additional Info? |
You can get to the Consulate easily by public transport. Take U5 (direction: Preungesheim) which leaves at the central trainstation. Get off at Giessener Strasse (takes 16 minutes). After getting off, take a right on Giessener Strasse. The Consulate will be on your left.
If you have an early morning interview, you can have your medical completed after the interview (walk-in). Be sure to mention it during your document check. Otherwise, the Consulate will not guarantee that you get to the doctor in time. The results will be faxed by the panel physician to the Consulate.
