My appointment was for 8:30. I arrived around 15 minutes early. A long line had already formed in front of the security checkpoint by then. To get in, I needed to show my DS-160 confirmation page and passport at the security window. I then received a number and instructions to take a seat at windows 15 - 21.
There was an additional line by the entrance, but getting through security didn't take very long. My advice: Bring only your paperwork, if you can. People in line with backpacks were told in no uncertain terms that packed clothing items and such cannot be brought into the consulate. If you're carrying more on you than what is absolutely necessary, you might add more stress to an already stressful appointment.
I've read in reviews from other consulates that mobile phones are sometimes allowed in. This is not the case in Frankfurt. Any electronic devices must be handed over at the security checkpoint and you get a receipt to retrieve them later on.
Once I had gotten through security, I walked across a yard to the actual consulate. It's a big building in which one side is lined with 21 windows. Windows 1 - 14 are for non-immigrant visas and had a massive line in front of them. Windows 15 - 21 are for immigrant visas and had a row of chairs in front of them. I suppose immigrant visas just take longer, so you're not expected to stand throughout the whole wait.
After sitting down, I waited around 2:30 hours before my name was called. At first, I was called to one of the windows for the document check-in. This is where you're asked to hand over the I-134, employer's letter, your birth certificate and police records. Afterwards, I was instructed to sit and wait for another ten minutes before the actual interview.
For the interview, I was called to a different window. It went much faster than I had anticipated. The questions I was asked were:
- Have you ever committed a crime?
- Have you ever served in the military?
- Where does your fiancé live?
- Where do you intend to live when you move to the US?
- What job does your fiancé have?
- What are your plans for once you're in the US?
- When did you meet your fiancé?
- How did you meet your fiancé?
- How often have you met your fiancé?
- When was the last time you met your fiancé?
Afterwards, the CO checked the results of my medical examination and told me that I was approved. Overall, the actual interview went over very quickly. After 9 months of waiting, I found it hard to believe at first that this brief conversation was all it took, but I'm not going to complain about that. CEAC status changed to 'issued' within 24 hours and now, 3 days later, UPS says the passport is on its way and will arrive today.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
