I had done an application for permission to reapply which was accepted, but they wanted me to also do a I-601 waver and I decided not to do it since I was only 6 moths away from the 10 yrs to be done. And because I had gone to an interview at the consulate earlier, they just issued the visa on my passport that was sent to the consulate 3 weeks before the 6 moths was over. After that I got my plane tickets. Reading the us customs and border patrol website, I found out that when going to the immigration at the port of entry I would mandatorily would have to go to a secondary inspection due to the nature of the visa (IR1 immigrant visa) and that could take a few hours, so I got my plane ticket going through Canada since I did not want to loose my next plane, I bought a ticket with at least 3 hours of layover. everything went smooth an I got my green card I think 2 or 3 moths after arriving in Marlborough MA.
