Hi guys, so I have a question here. We filed our application of K1 visa this past August 16 and got our NOA2 already. We are just getting ready for the interview and that we have two red flags. We have a significant age gap of 29 years and that we have just been talking for 7 months now. We have seen each other twice. Both of us has never been married and no criminal records either. So my main concern is about the age difference, would they question that and the length of time that we have been dating? We just want to start our life together-together. Thank you all

P.S. Would it make our chances of getting approved higher if he comes to the interview with me?

You call that an "age gap"!! Seriously, do worry on it.

For the Phils that is not uncommon, I know of a few that blow right past that number. Your relationship is real... then no problem.

If you fiance can attend the interview I highly recommend it, not so much that it is necessary but it is a GREAT experience that you both can share and enjoy the memories forever. I attended and very glad I did.

It is definitely a red flag and so is the length of courtship. Not that i am trying to discourage you guys but stick to the truth and have him come over for the K1 interview.you shall be together.

Not even close to a red flag.... not even pale pink

For the Philippines this is common. Don't waste your time on such insignificant stuff. Just prove the relationship is genuine and be done with it. Have your documents ready the event they ask for them. You'll be in and out in less then 5 min.

So these are my opinions based on my own experiences.

As long as your relationship is sincere and you have demonstrated it to the CO, you will be fine. I have a 20 year difference with my wife and the CO wasn't concerned at all.

Did you fiancé meet your parents and family? Do you have any group/family pictures together that includes your fiancé? The more involved with your family, the more positive the situation.

As for attending the interview, I attended it with my then fiancé and the CO even commented to both of us that it was really good that I was there with her to support her through the process. So, I would recommend, if possible, that your fiancé attend the interview with you at USEM.

I am actually a bit concerned about that. My fiancé has never met my family, I would say because I haven't had the chance to introduce him yet. I have not seen my family in almost 7 years since I was studying college and then when I graduated I immediately got a job and never had the chance to go back home. BUT I talk to them over the phone regularly, I talk about us and explained to them the circumstances. I told them about me and fiancé's plans and they are very supportive of it, plus we kind of felt that we needed those two trips to be alone and spend quality time with each other. Are we in trouble? Those two trips is basically just us, no family and no friends and no workmates too.

you have nothing to be concern about the interview in manila is fairly easy. I doubt if that will even be bought up. but if you are worry perhaps he can visit you one more time and meet your family. If not maybe you can introduce him to some of your family on web cam .You can take some screenshots of him and them talking print them and take to the interview

Relax everything will be good

I wouldn't say you are in trouble and I don't really think you have much to worry about. But having more, rather than less, always helps. One idea is that maybe your fiancé can arrive a little bit early and you both can travel to visit your parents and introduce him. But it isn't required. It is just a bonus if you have that to show the CO if they even ask. So relax and don't get too stressed over this.

While others might not agree, I really do think it is of great benefit if your fiancé attends the interview with you. It was a very positive experience for me and I always recommend it.

I don't think you provided your age, but if you are under 21 you will need need your parents consent anyway (at least for the CFO sticker).

Good luck!

Not mean to discourage you but had 27 years of age gap the CO that interview me didn't seem to be happy about that and denied me for some lame reason but good luck with you

Other members would have to chime in, definitely seen some age gaps, but this one is pretty large of one. I know its not supposed to matter but I also know the smallest littlest things have tripped up some....I think the more evidence the better certainly. I would suggest the Search feature, one thread has over 40 pages:

I was 52 and Joan was 23 (29 year difference) and it was never an issue. I was there at the interview and the age difference never came up. The closest question came from the Filipino Consul who asked if I was married before. I said "No, good things come to those who wait!" Approved! Joan's biometrics for her ROC is this Thursday. Good luck!

Some embassy are a lot harder for large age gaps. However the Philippines are not as hard. It might be harder if you are young around 18 and he is 40 something that might make a different compare to if you are 30 and he is 57 I have seen many people on here get approve from there with large age gap. I think that you and him have only been talking for 7 months will be more of a problem. you should send in as much evidence as you can Pictures of the both of you and with family, chat and text msg ,passport stamps, boarding passes, receipts. You have seen each other twice so that is good, I will not worry so much about the age gap for the Philippines and more about proving your relationship if I were you

I "met" Joan on Facebook in February 2013 and flew to the Philippines to really meet her in June. I was back in October with her ring in October. We filed when I returned (7 months). I was back to see her two more times (and was there for her interview). No problem at all. Prove that you are legit and move on with your lives together!

It would be good for your family to have met your fiance, but for sure it is not vital to being approved.

I'll probably get negative response for this, but me thinks/perceive that some folks like to brag about how big their age gaps are as if its some type of accomplishment, then cover it up with its just a number. Let's be honest, most men like younger women it is what it is.

Regards to the OP, just focus on your relationship as others have said.
