The senior-most freedom-of-information official in the executive branch of the United States government for over a quarter-century, whose job it was to help four administrations — including the Clinton White House — interpret the Freedom of Information Act, offer advice, and testify before Congress on their behalf.

Daniel Metcalfe doesn't buy her explanation. In fact, he calls it laughable.

"What she did was contrary to both the letter and the spirit of the law," says Metcalfe, the founding director of the Justice Department's Office of Information and Privacy, which advised the rest of the administration on how to comply with the law. Metcalfe ran the office from 1981 to 2007.

"There is no doubt that the scheme she established was a blatant circumvention of the Freedom of Information Act, atop the Federal Records Act."

Metcalfe examined a transcript of her press conference, provided by The Canadian Press.

And he dissected it Wednesday, point by point, annotating it in 23 places where he called her statements "deceptive," "grossly misleading" and impossible to verify.

His overall conclusion from her public appearance: "Her suggestion that government employees can unilaterally determine which of their records are personal and which are official, even in the face of a FOIA request, is laughable."

The founding director of the Justice Department’s Office of Information and Privacy says former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s email excuses are “deceptive,” “grossly misleading” and impossible to verify, according to CBC News.

Daniel Metcalfe, who the publication describes as the “senior-most freedom-of-information official in the executive branch of the United States government for over a quarter-century,” dissected Clinton’s recent press conference regarding the scandal and argued her use of the private email account was “contrary to both the letter and the spirit of the law.”

“There is no doubt that the scheme she established was a blatant circumvention of the Freedom of Information Act, atop the Federal Records Act,” Metcalfe said.

Lest you think Metcalfe’s scathing review is political in nature, we must note he is a registered Democrat. He told CBC News he was embarrassed to work for former President George W. Bush and he also served in the Clinton administration.

Metcalfe took an unyielding stance on Clinton’s decision to set up a private email system during her tenure at the State Department.

“You can’t have the secretary of state do that; that’s just a prescription for the circumvention of the FOIA. Plus, fundamentally, there’s no way the people at the archives should permit that if you tell them over there,” he added.

Clinton admitted to deleting roughly half of the 60,000 emails, which she claimed were all “personal.” But if a staffer would’ve told Metcalfe that they would be setting up a private email account and deciding which emails would get deleted, he said he would’ve replied, “You’ve gotta be kidding me.”

Metcalfe also called it “laughable” that a government official should be able to unilaterally decide which emails are personal and which are official.

Comedian Jon Stewart addressed the Hillary Clinton email controversy on Wednesday night, taking aim at the former first lady and imploring her to invite an independent party to look through her account.

Jokingly referring to her as ”former president Hillary Clinton” at the beginning of the segment, Stewart started by taking aim at Clinton’s claim that it was more convenient to use only one device while serving as secretary of state.

“Since Clinton left the State Department, her single device preference has completely gone away,” the comedian said, playing a clip of Clinton detailing the numerous tablets and devices she now uses. “You are a person who wants to be president, which is a super inconvenient job. Did you know that everywhere you go you not only have to carry a phone, but a briefcase filled with nuclear codes?”

Stewart quipped that Clinton wouldn’t be able to suddenly say that the briefcase is a hassle and ask to have the nuclear codes placed on her phone, as doing so, he joked, could lead her to “butt dial a nuclear strike on Mexico.”

He proceeded to explain, on a more serious note, that the government seeks to archive officials’ work emails and that not following protocol looks odd.

“The rule exists so that the government can auto archive all of your work emails,” Stewart said. “But, since you did it your own way, your work emails are all mixed up with your personal emails — and now they have to be separated out.”

The comedian added, “When we all agree to do things a certain way and you do it in a different way, it looks weird.”

Toward the end of the segment, Stewart implored Clinton to allow an independent party to look through her emails just to see if she “missed anything” — and he concluded by making yet another point about Clinton’s convenience claim.

“You just told us you didn’t follow the rules, because having two separate email addresses would be way too big a pain in in a**, but you know what is a far bigger pain in the a**?” Stewart rhetorically asked. “Trying to delete 30,000 emails.”

i don't think there are near as many libs frothing at the mouth for hillary to be president as you've been lead to believe. normally, when jon stewart mocks someone - there's a good reason for it. you know, 'funny cause it's true'.
