GED and I-20

I am currently an international student in the US and haven't graduated high school yet. I'm 18 and wishing to take a GED.

If my I-20 is terminated by the previous school, can I still take GED test and go straight to college after that?

Does the terminated i-20 will affect me later on?

A GED is not as good as a HS diploma, not sure why you would want to get that.

Yes - especially if you plan on getting another non-immigrant visa.

what are your plans? Live in the US? Work in the US? Study in the US?

good luck

I'm trying to live or at least work in the US...

Can I take the GED test and go on with my study in college?

If you're SEVIS has been terminated, you don't have any time at all to stay. How long have you been out of status? Based on info you've given, you would have to apply for re-instatement.

Can I do the reinstatement after I take GED and continue applying for college?

Do you have a GED program that will offer you an I20 and reinstate your SEVIS?

You can't re-establish any non-immigrant status in the US once your F1 visa is terminated. You need to leave before your barred time triggers.

To everyone: OP needs GED diploma to get accepted at a college (Highschool or GED minimum requirement.) College can provide you with an I-20 but it is not a non-immigration status, it is a form so you can apply for another F1 visa but not here in the States.

right. Thank you for your help. I got accepted in a private school already. I just curious what would happen if I took another path. :)

Private school acceptance doesn't mean you have any legal status now. A piece of I-20 is not your visa.
