I just finished applying for the K1 fiancé visa for my fiancé who is currently living in Colombia. I received a notice that it was received by USCIS on May 14th, 2014. However, when I went to the website to check the status of my application, it says that the case doesn't exist. Should I be worried?

Also, most of the timeline examples I have seen here are from other countries, but not any from Colombia. Does anybody know the approximate time it takes for my alien fiancé to have the visa in hand and be able to set foot in the USA? Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

#1 Don't worry it would appear later. That happened to me with my I-130 for my husband. I was able to check my status a week later it was under initial review and still is. Wait at least 1 more week if it doesn't appear you should call USCIS make sure you type everything within your case number such as LIN1490000000 don't skip letter or any * (asterisk).

#2 I have heard that it takes almost the same time as the I-130 8-12 months.. True or not? I'm not sure.

Good luck.

You mean you just sent the I-129F petition for your fiance? There are different steps/phases of the overall process to getting a K-1. First, the USC files an I-129F petition. Once that is approved, it grants the foreign fiance(e) the eligibility to apply for a K-1 visa at the consulate in their country. Being from Colombia has no bearing on the processing time of the I-129F petition. You can check the current processing times for your service center > http://www.visajourney.com/content/times

How long it takes for applying for the K-1 visa and getting scheduled for an interview there would be where processing times for Colombia would come into play. You can check out the reviews for Colombia and read through and/or ask about the K-1 visa processing times and procedures for your country in the Mexico, Latin & South America regional forum here on VJ. > http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/96-mexico-latin-south-america/

Once you receive the receipt notice with your receipt number on it, you can use that number to check the case status online. Sometimes it can a bit for your information to show up in the system. If it never shows up, you can contact them about it. The online status updating system is unreliable and buggy.

As to the above poster about the processing times of the I-130 and I-129F, the I-130 is currently taking longer than the I-129F to process. Some of the I-129F petitions are being processed fairly quickly right now.

My fiance is in Colombia too!!! Congratulations on starting your process. Get ready for the wait. I don't think it matters if the wait is four months or nine, waiting will just not be fun. My application went to TSC. We received our NOA1 on December 5th and just today almost six months later, received our NOA2. I am expecting about two more months before we have the visa in hand. But each process is different. Yours may process much faster, you never know. Good luck to you

The processing times link is giving a server error right now otherwise you could see the average TSC K-1 processing times for Colombia.. I won't hazard to guess without being able to look as I was eaten alive the last time for being out of touch with the new added times for the I-130.. When the links are workign again you can get a pretty good idea of how long people are waiting now...

On the bright side you are in Florida.. Nice cheap(ish) direct flights to Colombia.. I would have been so thrilled with that!

OK.. So it is working this morning :)

If you click on "Immigration Timelines" at the top of the page, then "K1 Visa Timelines" then at the the bottom of the table select "Texas service center" then "Not Transferred" then "Colombia" for country.. Then hit the "set filter" button..

Now click the down arrow by the NOA1 date ... You can then select the page number until you start seeing entries in the NOA2 and interview fields. These are never complete for all entries as people stop filling out their timelines for various reasons but you will see where most of them are filled out.. For Colombia it is currently at the bottom of page #2..

So just looking at the Colombia timelines the December filers are starting to get their NOA2.. The time from NOA1 to interview is running from 150 to 220 days.. The sample is pretty small though.. I think if I were you I would look at NOA2 to interview times for CSC for Colombia as well (I beleive in Colombia I-129fs select their own interview days so it is bound to be a bit more chaotic but you will at least get an idea) and then TSC NOA1 to NOA2 for all countries for the I-129f.. That would give you a pretty good idea for an average timeline for Colombia I-129f NOA1 to interview.

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

My NOA1 indicated that my application was received on Feb 10, 2014. and based on all the data that is "available", we are expecting to received a NOA2 sometime between June and July. Nevertheless, at this moment, it is only speculation. But at the same time, there is a lot of people, that had their application at TSC, who submitted after us that got the NOA2.

is the 4 to 5 months-period a realistic expectation between the two NOAs?

Historically that has been about right but there are the occasional backups that can push it out a few months and a few people for whatever reason get it in just a month or two.. There are never any guarantees that what you see today will be true a few months down the line.. But "usually" what you are seeing for averages today is a safe bet as to what to expect.
