Traveling while waiting for new green card

Hello folks,

Seeking advice and also experienced ones on my case. I was just approved for ROC but will be traveling in three weeks. I looked at the timelines of green card production, it looks like I'll be cutting the dates really close.

Should I go get an I-551 stamp or is the expired green card and extension letter combination still valid? I did ask USCIS Tier 2 officer and he told me it was my decision to go. Huh?! Wgat a vague response! Please help!

As long as your extension letter is still valid, you should be fine — you can always get the I-551 stamp if you're really concerned about it though.

Going by the logic that the extension letter extends the green card for one year, then the true expiration is in July. I think I'm fine too but yeah, I'm worried cos of that 20% doubt. Sigh! I wish they wouldn't be so vague in all these.

If anything, I'd be more worried about your airline denying you instead of CBP, because sometimes airlines don't know what they're doing.

They are pretty fast with GC so if you travel in 3 weeks I think you have your new GC by then.

Hopefully! LOL the letter does say you'll get it within 3 weeks, however mine got shipped today, and the case was approved on the 24th for my AOS, so I'd expect my card to be here either tomorrow or Monday, since I know once I received my EAD card shipping notification it was in the mail the very next day.
