Hi guys, our case is now in Ghana, and am just wondering how long does it take for the consulate to send the packages? Ghana is shitty slow with issuing K1 interview dates. My reason os I want to travel to Gh to support my fiancé during the interview, and try if wcan even go with her inside the embassy. My own people fraud ways had made it very difficult to get K1 visas, so am thinking if going to Ghana during interview could somehow help. Any answers is welcomed

Don't wait for packages, check this

http://ghana.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visas.html

and the most helpful is the US embassy in Nigeria info here

http://nigeria.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visas.html

do yourself following Nigerian instructions, it's all the same but US embassy in Nigeria explains much better. If you do it yourself, it saves you lots of time

Hi I read the Nigeria consulate info, but it also says " K visa applicants should not schedule their appointment until after they have received an Instruction package from the Consulate" So I think I still have to wait for the Instructions package before filing the DS-160

The embassy will mail a letter to your home letting you know when your fiancé can go pick up the packets. It took about 2 months for us to receive the letter when we went through the K1 process.

Packet 3 will give you instructions of what to bring to the interview and where to get the medical exam.

Packet 4 will give you the interview date. The embassy schedules it, so you don't need to worry about that. I believe you get about 6-8 weeks notice before the interview, unless they are really backed up,

You most likely won't be allowed in the embassy. They have recently changed the rules for security reasons. I would suggest providing your fiancé with proof you're outside so the consulate knows you are there.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, it's pretty sad to wait that for the interview package compared to other consulates, and another 2 months before actual interview. So basically interview might be late December or early Next Year. WTH!

Hi thanks for the tips, I have been reading Ghana portal since day one. Ghana seems to be the most difficult consulate to go through with K1, Nigeria is even better than Ghana. so am basically preparing very well for tips to the interview. As I said I will definitely be in Ghana during the interview, if am not allowed in will give her my passport to show to CO about my presence outside. Am just preparing everything moves faster so as not to wait until next year before marriage. ABOVE ALL LOVE WINS

I just came back from Ghana a month ago to attend my fiance K1 visa interview.

The embassy wont allow the US petition to enter. they tell you to email the Ghana embassy and to schedule and interview but that a lie. its a waste of time. people will complain that the Ghana embassy never replies but that is also a lie. you need to make sure you are emailing the right place.

this is the best email for the Ghana embassy IVACCRA@STATE.GOV. don't use the other emails since its they will forward it to another department and then you will never hear anything again.

Make sure to use the restroom before you leave to the embassy because they wont even allow you to use their restrooms to enter. even if you are a USA citizen plus there are no other places close by where you can use the restroom. at least that was my experience. I waited for my fiance about 6 hours before he got out with the denial letter. :( sad day!

Anyway the best way for your fiance to let them know you are there is to Take your passport with her and make sure to let the CO know your outside waiting for him/her.

I would also advise that you put a copy of your most recent plane tickets in the evidence so the CO will know you are there now.

Make sure your fiance also says it to the CO.

I will also advise that you make copies of everything! the embassy ended up keeping our evidence of relationship and I was foolish enough not to make copies of everything and now I am doing the CR1 and have no receipts of trips we took while I was in Ghana.

Also now that your case is with Ghana it shouldn't take more the 4-6 weeks for you to get a letter in the mail stating when your fiance would pick up the packages 3&4

when he goes to pick up the packaged he will have to be there early morning and return that same day. One he gets packet 3&4 it will be about 6-10 weeks till the interview I think my fiance and I had about 3 months before the interview from the day he got the packet.

Honestly to me 3 months was perfect since It gave us enough time to get his medicals, police clearance and for me to book a flight in advance to save some money.

The biggest advise I tell you is for you and your fiance to prepare an Amazing evidence of your relationship! make sure your fiance knows what is included in the evidence and to be able to answer lots of questions about you and the evidence and everything. the CO will ask of everything. sometimes basic questions sometimes bit random questions.

Also when you say your own people Fraud that makes me sad. I don't think It was all Ghananian whom fraud. As far As I am aware getting a Ghana passport is easy. I was told people from other parts of Africa would come to Ghana and live there and claim to be Ghananians since obtaining a birth certificate from Ghana is easy and then in turn these people whom were from other parts of Africa will come to the USA and marry for exploitation or convenience. I loved the Ghana people and after seeing how easy it is for people from other place to live there I realized it was easy for them to also say they were from Ghana and thus now Ghana is scrutinized for being fraudulent.

You've been told by whom, and what screenshots are you talking about?

I was told by other members. They say to take screenshots of the NVC status tracker at https://ceac.state.gov/ceacstattracker/status.aspx.

Or if you have already received your letter confirmation, take a pic of it and send to your fiancé and have them to go to the embassy on a Wednesday to retrieve packets.

I've been contacting couples who have already gotten an interview date.

What I have gathered is that you should not wait on the consulate but rather be proactive in contact the embassy since you know that they have already received your information

I haven't made it to this point in the process however I would suggest being persistent to keep the process moving smoothly.

It frustrates me that this consulate inparticular seems to move so slow.

Yeah, I emailed the embassy and what they said they will contact my fiancé when the packet is ready. What I don't know is if she goes to the embassy with the NVC letter, it is when they prepare the packets there for her or the packets is already ready to be picked up. It seems Nigerians get theirs less than a week but Ghana can be a different story
