Extend trip, could it affect negatively?

I'm helping my half brother through this. I was born here so I'm a citizen.

Brother is visiting and I introduced him to a family friend and they hit it off.

He has been here for two weeks, no VISA needed but he's here on ESTA.

He now wants to extend his trip another month, buying a new ticket. Could this affect things negatively? Should he contact customs/immigrations about staying?

I think he can legally be here for three month without a VISA (as a Swedish tourist), but I realize they granted him entry based on the two weeks he was initially going to stay.

I don't want to screw up their chances of going take K-1 and I-129F route, if this proves to be the real deal.

Thank you. He is also looking at visiting at Christmas. I suggested that if they feel this is it, at that point he should propose to her, then they should file for K-1. At this point, should he be honest entering saying he is here to see his sister AND girl friend or will they not let him in then?

I think he should propose as and when he feels like he is ready for it. He's only known her two weeks! They might want to keep it casual for many years. They might not be ready for marriage for a long time. He might not even want to live permanently in the USA, it's not everyone's dream.

When he returns he should be honest at the border. If he is staying at your place he can say he is here to see his sister. If he is staying at this girl's place she should say he is coming to see his girlfriend. Neither option will jeopardise any future immigration plans but they could be a long way off that stage yet. And they might choose to live somewhere else anyway. Sweden is a very nice place.

I've always been honest and told the border security ppl that I'm coming to see my fiancé, it has never been an issue at all.

When you enter the US they stamp your passport and the stamp also has the date of when you have to leave the US at the latest, it's 90 days on ESTA. So as long as he doesn't overstay the date in his passport he's fine, he can stay longer than just the two weeks he first planned for.

I guess I'm just more of a "you only live once", kinda person. It's hard to have a NEW long distance relationship, so MYSELF, I would just propose at Christmas, hope to have the VISA in the summer, and give a go.
I immigrated to Canada from Sweden in a similar way 10 years ago, having met a guy in World of Warcraft (online game). I moved in after knowing him for two weeks, cause we decided to give it a go, and it if wouldn't work, it wouldn't, and I would move back to Sweden. Here we are, ten years later and three kids :)
