Green Card and Social Security Card Middle Name

On the Green Card we have her middle initial as M (for Maria). On her social security card (the one prior to receiving green card stating work authorization valid with DHS authorization), they wrote her full middle name Maria...

Now on her new Social Security card it reads only with her middle initial (exactly how written on green card). Is this normal? Is this how other people have their social security cards as well?

There's no rhyme or reason to it. For example, on my wife's first greencard, they abbreviated her name from 'Maria Sol' to 'Maria S' despite the fact that 'Sol' is part of her first name, not her middle name. On the second greencard, they fixed this, but still abbreviated her maiden (middle) name. Finally, on her passport, all the names are full and correct. No idea why they couldn't just do it right in the first place, other than 'We are the USCIS - we don't care, we don't have to.'

I think she got her social security card fixed after the second green card. It was initially abbreviated like yours.
