Overseas Computer Sytems Experiencing Glitches Affecting Visas

An unidentified glitch has hit the computer system used for issuing visas and passports at U.S. embassies worldwide, the State Department said Friday.

The same system, the Consular Consolidated Database, was hit by a weeklong outage in July last year, but the current problems are not the same, said Julia Straker, a State Department spokeswoman. At that time, a glitchy software update crashed the Oracle database system and caused a backlog of at least 200,000 applications.

The State Department didnt identify the root cause of the current problem or when it might be resolved, other than saying it hopes it will be fixed soon. But the agency said there was no evidence the problem is related to cyber security.

The problem has hit visa issuance, consular reports of births abroad and the ability for U.S. citizens to obtain passports overseas, but the State Department said it is processing urgent requests. For further information go here:

this thread is about the same thing.

I hope it won`t cause too big of a delay either way but apparently it affects tourist visa`s more than immigrant visa`s. Still sucks though!

"The systems in place to perform required national security checks before we issue visas are experiencing technical difficulties. As a result, we are unable to print visas." -- do you think this means that people who haven't gone through a national security check are affected regardless of the June 9 date? At what point in the process do they perform the security check, is it during application (at the USCIS and NVC stages) or post interview? If it's the latter, then a lot of cases in AP may be affected.

This is my opinion. I think they run a security check twice, once in the beginning when you submit your I-129 as a K-1/K-2 and I think they run it once more before the issue your visa knowing that almost 6 months have passed, giving you enough time to get into trouble.

I would think that is the process and since there is a hitch in the system then those who are affected are those who had interview June 9th and later plus those who are submitting their I-129 for the first time. :crying:

Yeah that process makes sense actually. First check could be an initial weed out process, then second check to make sure you haven't screwed up since lol.
