I-864 forms NEED barcode on the bottom?

Hey everybody,

We sent my parents our I-864 forms about a week or so ago, however they did NOT have the barcode on the bottoms of the pages. My dad just let me know he did his forms WITH barcodes on the bottom.

Is this a problem? Do we need to re-send (to my parents) another I-864 form but WITH the barcode.

I'm just kind of surprised how I missed the barcode, I believe I found the form somewhere on a website related to the NVC.

*Form, sorry about the plural. Sent my parents my I-864 (Petitioner), and I did not have any barcodes at the bottom. However my dad filled out his I-864, and his form (wherever he found it) has barcodes on the bottom.

Should both forms have barcodes at the bottom? Does it make a difference?

Thanks everybody,

T+J

When you print the current I-864, it has a bar code at the bottom of each page. Did you use the old version, or have a printing problem? I-864 forms are not for "parents". They are for individuals. The I-864a does not have a bar code. Also use the bar coded cover sheet for any packages sent to NVC. Download that from the payment portal or if they emailed you one, use that.

I must have downloaded the old one, but I believe I found the form off of here or from a US official government page. My father will be our joint sponsor, hence why we both are filling out the I-864. Will I need to fill out another I-864 with the barcode on the bottom?

Or would they accept it if my I-864 did not have the barcode on the bottom?

I just happened to see this thread, I printed out a I-864 probably two weeks ago for my sponsor to fill out and it did NOT have any sort of bar code...was there a brand new form with a bar code? I can't believe this...I just downloaded another one today and I see no bar code...am I missing something here? Can someone send me a link to the new one with a barcode?

thanks for the help!

Try using IE browser to download the form.

When I use Chrome browser, I don't see the bar code at the bottom of form.

Done with K1, AOS and ROC

Thanks for your rapid reply.

It never ceases to amaze me that in this day and age, there is a difference between downloading something or submitting something online through Explorer or Firefox...stunning. This is after I've had everything signed and ready to go...so disappointing and adding to the incredible frustration of this journey...just unbelievable, but luckily I saw this thread this morning.

I would do so, yes. Just to check, I downloaded for form using Chrome. The bar code did not show. However, when opening the the PDF file with Adobe, the bar code does show. I suspect if you go to the folder the file is stored and open it with Adobe or Adobe reader, and then fill it out and save it using that same program, all will be well. The problem comes when filling it out while it's displayed in a browser.

Considering they get lots of these from folks making the same mistake, I expect they accept them with or without the bar code though.

Thanks for the reply, yes I did open with Adobe and it worked...Preview on the Mac is another useless program but that's another story. So yes, it was the viewer and not the browser. They probably will accept without barcode but I don't want to give them any excuse to hold up our application...it to USCIS 366 days to process my initial I-130, absolutely disgusting it took that long.
