Hi VJ. I've been looking around on here and see a lot of different responses. Can someone tell me if my wife will need only her NBI or also a police certificate for filing with the NVC??? Thanks!!!

Has she lived in another country for 1 year or more? If not, she does not need a police clearance. If she has then she needs a police clearance from that other country.

HI Hank. She has not lived outside of the Philippines. I ask because I've seen other VJ members have got RFE's because they didn't send in a police clearance along with their NBI. So you're saying she only needs the NBI to send in with the ds230?

According to the letter I posted a link to it states all that is needed is the NBI not a police clearance unless a person was 16 years or older and lived in another country for 1 year or more.

The letter gives you a list of everything that is requested.

She would only need to submit an NBI clearance (the GREEN one) with her DS-230 along with the other required civil documents.

The NBI is issued by the Philippines for Filipino citizens. Police clearances are issued by other countries for visa applicants that have lived in other countries other than their country of citizenship. Those RFEs you saw were likely due to people whom did live in other countries and didn't include those clearances. Otherwise, there is no need for one.

Just to be clear, it's possible to get 'police clearance' in the Philippines, in a province or city to issue it. My fiance went ahead and got Manila and Zamboanga police clearance, and also 'baranguy' clearance too, although no one ever asked to see them, so was a waste of time. But we thought, better over prepare.

But yes, NBI is all she needs. And make sure it says 'for travel to US' or 'to travel abroad'

Sure you can get police clearance in the Philippines, but its a TOTAL waste of time as they are not requested.

There is over prepared and then there is over the edge...
