*HELP* Visa packet delivered torn (not the corner thing)

Well, the good news is she got the visa. :)

The bad news is there's a tear coming from that pre-cut corner area. It's not the normal thing, it's a tear on the front from the lower end of that corner-cut, reaching to the "T" on "TO BE OPENED...". I guess it's about 1 to 1.5 inches long.

This tear was present when it was delivered. When it arrived, it was not in overall good shape, it is very wrinkled, etc. When she removed her passport from the plastic, she noticed the tear in the envelope. The tear is probably not big enough to remove any documents from the envelope.

So, what's this mean? I'm sure it's not the first time this has happened. Should we notify the embassy? She is afraid the embassy will blame her, since it was already in her possession when the tear was noticed.

There have been people that opened the package even though it says do not open. Call the embassy and they will have her return it for resealing if its felt this small tear warrants it.

For sure contact the embassy and have it re-packaged. And no they won't "blame" her, they will just put everything in a new envelope. Don't need an issue at POE.

For others who may find this post while searching about the topic:

The people who I spoke to at the embassy responded so matter-of-fact-ly, I got the impression that this happens A LOT, and is not a terrible thing that should be worried about.

We have to get the packet back to 2GO. I was told it needs to include the passport. It also needs a letter of explanation.

They will ship it back to the embassy, supposedly without any charge. The embassy will only take about 1 day to turn it around and send it back again by 2GO. So, shipping time x2, plus one business day, is the total time involved.

We're trying to get it back to 2GO this afternoon (PHL time).

Those pictures are really blurry and hard to ascertain what you should do. We discussed this topic last year during the summer. Here is the link. After reading and looking at the pictures I think you will be able to make a decision as to what you want to.

If the tear is small as it appears in your photo I don't think there will be an issue. I highly suggest you keep the plastic bag tightly wrapped around the envelope and tape it tight so the tear does not get bigger.

Contact the embassy.

I just received mine today & I immediately checked for any torn areas. I too have that small tear at the corner cut of the envelope like joannamarie.g's. I didnt tear the plastic open, I just cut a hole to remove my passports (I have 2 passports. One is where my tourist visa was pasted which they had already cancelled) and I also removed the paper with the instructions of paying the immigrant fee.

I am guessing the tear is ok?

I don't see any issue there.    Small tears are very common, it is the ones where you could get your hand through where it becomes an issue.   Keep it in the plastic and in your carry-on bag.

Do make a copy of the immigrant data sheet for CFO  (should be able to do that through the plastic)

Watch what happens at POE ...
